Eating out for vegetarians

I've got veggies visiting tomorrow and they want to go out for Sunday lunch. Anyone know anywhere good?

Stafford is a little bit rubbish for veggies eating out, especially Sunday lunch - we usually end up in Pizza Express...

Royal Oak in Gnosall? Not eaten there for a while, but they coped with vegan well enough (instead of the usual "eh? what?"), and the food was nice.

Also, a bit further afield near Burton (but pleasant enough drive if you go via Blithfield etc) is The Burnt Gate http://www.burntgate.co.uk/ who probably have a better selection than many for veggies.

5 Veggies in the Seed Clan, unfortunately don't eat out much, and certainly not on a Sunday lunchtime. It probably isn't for Sunday, but wouldn't argue with Pizza Express, or Vivre? Pastiche might do Sunday lunch, and they usually have a couple of dishes, and somat for the carnivours! But to be quite honest, most places are pretty good these days! Hope they enjoy where ever you choose! Bon Appetit!

Mrs W has just suggested The Vine. Anyone any experiences?
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. :)

The Vine?

Jeez, is that still open? With all the arts council cuts?

Did you know CARLSBERG brew everything in Wolverhampton now? Bab

The Swan, at Forton, does a good carvery on Sunday. They will provide a decent nut roast for veggies, with a little jug of veggie gravy (a massive treat for vegetarians). The roasties and Yorkshire pud are all cooked in oil, separate from the meat. I would always recommend The Fox at Chetwynd Aston, which does fantastic veggie options but is more pricy. I don't know if Henryscat has visited The Royal Oak in its most recent incarnation but when we went, I really didn't have a brilliant time - I wouldn't personally recommend. It's supposed to be nice weather tomorrow. We're hoping for a walk and a picnic - easy to cater for veggies with sandwiches!

It has been a while (can't remember exactly how long) since I ate there, but it was in the previous incarnation. I've only availed myself of beer there since the refurb!

JM has hit the nail on the head - it's EXACTLY like that! When I was there, it felt particularly like the Canaries because the place was boiling. I had initially thought it odd that the locals were arriving in shorts. Pies. With separate tops. And they seemed terribly anxious about the fact that people had actually turned up for a meal...for all the world like it was a dining establishment or something. No. If it's pies (veggie and meat) you fancy, go for the Pie + Ale.
