You can only hold 10 That's a bit tight don't you think? Especially when you take sent messages into the equation..

This is deliberate.

I could increase the capacity, but really I can't imagine a scenario where people would need to keep more than 10 messages at a time. The only reason people's mailboxes fill up is that they read a PM, then leave it there instead of deleting it! By setting a maximum of 10, I would hope that it forces people to get in the habit of deleting messages once they have been replied to.

If I increase it to 20, I know exactly what will happen - it will free up everyone's inbox for a while, but then as soon as they hit that 20 limit we'll be back to square one! I think a better solution is just for everyone to get in the habit of replying to a PM, then deleting it.

If anyone can give me a good reason for increasing it, I am more than happy to hear it.
