Examples of poor driving you have witnessed!

I repeat what I said earlier in the thread, stafford more than any town I have come across has a real problem with people jumping the lights. Consistently drivers go through lights, from bikes to buses and everything in between the lights are treated only as a guideline. Also this habit in the town, if traffic is bad on the island near new look, and a car hasnt moved, when the lights change the driver feels it is their right to go anyway, after all it was their turn. I really wish the police would set them selves up outside new look with a camera for an hour on a saturday and issue fines.
This is what tends to happen when excessive traffic controls exist as a result of (very) limited road capacity.

If you drive round Nottingham, discipline at traffic lights seems much better, probably due to the amount of camera enforcement they have at signalised junctions.

Stafford is different to everywhere else in that:
green = go
yellow = floor it! you can make it, just believe
red = stop unless its only just gone red then you can still go as long as you are quick

This phenomenon occurs outside Stafford, too. I had cause to go through Wolverhampton to Dudley a while ago and was approaching a set of lights that were changing to red. Now, I could have stopped, but the chap behind was driving so close that this led me to believe that he probably wouldn't, so, after checking for crossing traffic, I elected to continue. When I checked the situation in the mirror, having negotiated the manoeuvre successfully, I found that there were at least five vehicles that had followed us through the red light - it must have been close to changing back when the last one got through..

This seems to be in force at pedestrian crossings, especially if someone is trying to cross the road and it makes no odds if there is queuing traffic ahead (seems to make it all the more worthwhile, particularly if a child or oap is trying to cross) - once you achieved this the 2nd rule that seems to be peculiar to Stafford 'if you see a yellow box junction and cant clear it, drive onto it' if you can't get where you want why not force the whole traffic system to come to a halt too. Despite this being a daily occurence I have yet to see any law enforcement in place.

Taxi cabs seem to be parked in the yellow junction box on the Newport Road. Also pedestrians tend to cross the road when its red for them and green for cars.

Hi all first time here :)
One place I regulary have issues with is if im trying to turn right onto lichfield road coming form riverway,, every time those coming form kfc and the hough jump the red light leaving you sat there having not moved or stranded in the middle,,,,it seems it isnt just me that finds this infuriating as i recently witnessed a blue golf being left stranded whilst at least 4 vehicles jumped the red , with the last being an obnoxious fellow in a sliver land rover who stuck the middle fingure up when the golf beeped his horn !
Toatl disregard on a daily basis to both other road users and indeed rules of the road at that junction !

Black car in the hedge at the Weston Rd and Beaconside roundabout. I could make the assumption that this was because of speed but yesterday I hit a patch of diesel on an island and nearly spun around!

Living close to there I go that way most days and I'm really surprised that I've not see an accident there yet due to people jumping the lights. I've certainly come close a few times myself when I can see the oncoming traffic has a red light so started to move only for the driver to decide its not been on red for long so they can nip through.

I've been stuck waiting at that junction on several occasions because of people going through on red. And when going in the opposite direction, I've been beeped and gestured at for NOT going through on red/ amber because I know what it does to people turning right.

Bah.

I know I'm being pedantic but it is Queensville Island not Matalan island. :)
There has been a bit of a tradition of naming roundabouts in Stafford after significant local businesses. The roundabout where Kwik Fit is now is still Attwood's Roundabout to me - and the one by Bristol Street Motors is, likewise, still Lloyd's Roundabout in my bio-nav.

The Silkmore Lane/Lichfield Road one never really got named in that way, after it was converted from traffic lights, perhaps because the nearby business was Co-Op Funeral Services..

Do you mean the Kwik Fit roundabout?

Going by that logic, the Queensville Island should either be named BRC Island, Kinsons Island or even B&Q Island as all three of those businesses were there before Matalan. And before the island was actually there, it was always known to me as Queensville lights.

The island where Krap-Fit is should be White Lion Street island as it is still White Lion Street. As for Lloyds island, I've heard it called that but I've always known it as Stone Road island. Why Stone Road and not Eccleshall Road, I really don't know as both roads lead off it.

I'd rather see places named after their traditional names than shops as they can easily come or go.

On a related note. The other day my son asked me to take him and his friends the pictures. I asked if he wanted dropping at The Green and he didn't have a clue where I meant. When I mentioned TK Maxx he knew instantly. I'm obviously not doing my job properly!

:( Aww, despite my advanced age I have only been driving for 3 years so I still navigate by shops and pubs, and even though I have lived in Stafford for 16 years Im still useless at road names, Soz!

It did used to be called BRC Roundabout by a few, for a while, until the demise of BRC - and, in the old days, 'Stone Road Roundabout' tended to mean the one that is now usually referred to as 'Redhill' or 'Shire Horse'..
