Maybe that's the answer then. When people start learning to drive they get L plates, when they've just passed their test they get P plates and when they get old they have to clearly display a flat cap at all times as a warning to other motorists.
Just to be clear this is a joke and not intentionally ageist. I'm sure the majority of elderly drivers are more concerned with a level of focus on their road safety and not being stereotypically distracted by the thought of a nice smooth werthers Original.

OMG! Think I'd better check into the old people's home right now.... I have a flat cap, love Werthers originals and was at the tip earlier today.... Fortunately, I don't have a red car, so not guilty... My car is grey!

Well, I do sometimes have a dog in the back if we're going to the Chase.. No, wait, that's for a totally different reason!

definition for U.M.Q.R.A. to Urban Dictionary: To have sex in a car with the headlights on, accidentally sending out gibberish morse code with said headlights.
Example: John texted Sherlock to ask him if he’d like to U.M.Q.R.A. in Dartmoor this evening.

Heading out of town, I pulled up to the traffic lights on Lammascote Road to turn right into Riverway and the lights changed to red. The two cars in front of me who were both behind the white line proceeded to take the right turn when the lights were on full red.

This is a common occurrence at these lights mainly because the County Council will not spend any money to install filter arrows at the junction.

That junction used to be a roundabout, in the good old days..

No, it is a common occurrence because drivers choose not to obey the lights. Most cars doing that right turn could have chosen to go Queensway past Asda then Lichfield Road. If you put a right turn arrow all that would happen is: there would be a bigger queue on Weston Road as you hold inbound traffic on red for longer and you would have a bigger queue waiting to exit Riverway onto Lichfield Road and/or more rat running down Fairway/St Leonards/ Queensville Av.

They could have chosen to go that way yes, but that is their choice as the road gives both options. As the Lammascote Road has a right turn on a busy road, the traffic signals should allow time for those drivers to make that turn.

Otherwise, the junction on the Lammascote right should be No Right Turn from town onto Riverway.

At peak times - if everyone stuck to the rules the right turn into Riverway would only let through 2 cars at a time maximum - causing backing up onto the ring road. All it needs is a dedicated Right arrow - similar to Newport Road onto Station road even for 10-15 seconds just to let a handful through - hardly going to make a big difference to the Weston Road - and since improvement to the Riverway / Lichfield Road junction not a big difference there.

Whilst I agree that drivers choose not to obey the lights, the rest of your post is pure rubbish.

People may choose not to obey the lights because they know they can and the overlaps are so long - and people may choose to go the Lammascote/Riverway route to avoid queueing all the way from ASDA, if they try to go the Queensway/Lichfield Road route , perhaps...

You queue either way but that isn't the point. The point is, that particular junction has needed filter arrows on ALL directions ever since they were installed in the early 1970s (I think). The County Council just hasn't bothered.

Just like they haven't bothered to adjust the flaps on the lights near the entrance to TK Maxx which are covered so you cannot see the green light. I reported this fact back in September 2009 and the council haven't done anything about it.
