I've just received a letter from Jeremy replying to my email the other day. It contains the phrases 'I would oppose any plans to remove or reduce public access' and 'I believe that the Chase should remain in public ownership' although it does include 'charitable organisations' in the range of public ownership that should being considered.

Hey, me too!

I trust that this letter, together with my personal assurance in respect of Cannock Chase, will reassure you of the Government's intentions.
Hmmm, not really, no.

Also, given the obvious form-letter style, i found the comment about the consultation paper, hoping i will "take the opportunity to read it and perhaps submit your own response", to be rather ironic.

Letter here too, I didn't like the phrase "shifting the balance of power from big government to big society" stupid buzz words to blind people to what is realy happening.
followed by "individuals, business", also "grant incentives"? you mean we will be paying them to plant crops that they will profit from?
And Mr Lefroy's response didn't seem very passionate to me "I would oppose plans to reduce or remove public access" not enough in my opinion!

Same here. BTW Jeremy, a letter doesn't make it more personal, make your constituents feel more important or give the impression you care. Particularly when it's a form letter. A short, personal email would be much nicer, one that expresses your view plainly and sounds like it came from a person, not a publicity machine.
/soap box

It didn't seem like it said anything of any use to me: a bunch of buzz words with sentence structures that leave plenty of room for extrapolation in a number of different directions. Other than the ones mentioned by age'd parent, here's another specific example:

Jim Paice MP in Lefroy letter said:
"we will not compromise the protection of our most valuable and biodiverse forests"
Begging the question: which forests are less valuable, and what will happen to those?

And also, how are we to trust what politicians say they will oppose after the tuition fees pledges by the Libs?

Rargh.

Oh and I just re read it, classic last line, "I trust that this letter, with my personal assurance in respect of Cannock Chase, will reassure you of the governments intention"

My thoughts exactly - does he not realise that most of the Chase does not fit that description?

Looks like our man in Westminster is well under the whip.

. As MSP Elaine Murray said at the time, logging firms could “chop down timber that was planted at public expense, walk away with the profit and then get paid to plant more trees”
When it (FC) recently flogged an area of woodland for £60,000, for example, the new landowner immediately applied for funds under the English Woodland Grant Scheme to grow and cut timber and was given assistance totalling £55,000.
