Actions speak louder than words.
I love it when people twist things for their own means.
Admin actually went out of their way and did not make comment that Mal and Coeus are the same person or not.
Are you two friends?
edit. *three* I should say.
I think we should all draw a line under this and carry on as normal.
There are times when some people on the forum disappoint me greatly. Page one of this thread - ooooh, how amazing someone is doing up Gothic Cottage and restoring it to its' original glory. Brilliant.
Page two onwards - Oh actually, It's MAL, well he's definitely a baddie so let's derail this thread too and turn it into a bullying/witch hunt/conspiracy theory thread.
I really can't stand judgemental people.
As Admin said, good on MAL for coming on here and not only answering questions but keeping his calm when so many were being down right vile to him.
I can see both points of view in this and I can understand why some felt deceived etc.
As I said we should all just move on now.
I didn't say anything of the sort. In fact, I strongly implied otherwise, but said I was awaiting further communication before taking any action.
That action has obviously now been taken. If this was some kind of secret operation, where I didn't want people to see that the accounts were disabled, I'm fairly sure I could come up with a better way than manually going into each profile and typing "Account Disabled" on each one for everyone to see.
I know you love a conspiracy theory, Carole, but come on.
I'm glad most people got it.
Yes, please. As you can all see, there are many people in this thread who would love to chat about Gothic Cottage, so it is a shame to derail their conversation just because you have taken a dislike to someone.
I haven't taken dislike to anyone @Admin
I enjoy posting on this site and a lot of people on here make me smile a lot
Yes you are right, I had forgotten that.
I apologise if I have caused offense to you.
In my defence, I made no comment at all towards Mal when he was commenting on the rugby thread even when others were slating him. He was entitled to come on here and give his point of view.
The thing I can't bear is deceit so I only started commenting when he started pretending to be 2 people.
It was that above all else that annoyed me. I can't bear that he was trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes and try to decieve people/take them for idiots.
By noticing that the accounts had been disabled I thought that it had been proven after all that they were one and the same. Thats all.
But again, sorry for causing issues.
What did you mean by conspiracy theory though? I don't understand that comment in relation to my comments.
So we've established that MAL was knowingly misleading us and then used another alias to be even more misleading. But somehow that's OK and anyone who says otherwise is a conspiracy theorist and witchhunter. No point in this forum if it's just going to be another Snoozeletter and Radio FleaMason.
As far as I can see, nothing has been established or confirmed as yet, it's all supposition on the part of forum members.
Except that he wasn't misleading, or rather he wasn't misleading in the way that sock accounts usually are.
As MAL he stated he would no longer be commenting. He then presumably changed his mind and began commenting under another Id in the same style and with a similar message. There was no attempt to mislead unless you reckon he was trying to give the impression there were two posters supporting his views rather than one. (Which he might have been, but no big deal in the great scheme of things.) Given the subject of his first posts, maybe "astroturfing" is a more appropriate label.
I wonder if people realise how difficult it is to admin a forum? Not only has this become a witch hunt I'd be feeling pretty low if I was the admin, as it seems to be that everyone is annoyed about their course of action. I admin a forum and keep having the same person signing up again after they've been banned, and it's difficult to find sometimes. I guess he has a real life too so can't sit here doing everything you want him to every hour of the day either.
I have just been on Mumsnet and it is so confusing on there because they allow multies and name changing all the time ... it is hard to keep up with it all.
Thank you, @Lucy; this could not be more true. Not only do I have a real life outside The Forum, but that life is currently very busy with managing chronic illness, new additions to the family, and all the usual highs and lows that your average Joe/Jolene is party to. Sometimes one can't help but think if it's worth it when it seems you can't do right for doing wrong!
Tis but a fleeting thought, though.
Bet you're not.
But just to address this head on, as I know this is one of the more pervasive notions amongst a handful of people: I do not work for any Council, or developer, and am not part of the Freemasons, or any other group that may enjoy "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" privileges. I had never heard of ELM or the name Martin Lennon until they were mentioned in the Rugby Club thread (indeed, I just had to look his name up again whilst writing this as I had forgotten it and nearly wrote Martin Freeman!). I barely know anyone on here, in fact.
I know this won't convince some of you, but frankly I couldn't care less. As Lucy says, this is a thankless, tiring job, and I'm just happy that Stafford Forum is as popular as it now is, nearly 10 years on from me starting it as a bit of a joke with friends because I was living away from Stafford and forever preaching about how much I missed my beloved home town and wanted a way to stay in touch with the community. If a few of you want to believe that I am part of a local conspiracy and treating some people differently than others, you are welcome to - I am just amused that you think Stafford Forum has that kind of reach/influence, and that any such people would even want me as a member of their No Homers Club.
So, how's that Gothic Cottage looking?
That hasn't actually been established. It has just been assumptions made by other forumites.
I believe as well as using the words conspiracy theory, I also intimated that I thought forumites were using a bullying attitude towards MAL. I think several people on here hide behind their anonymity to bully others and I find it downright disgusting to be honest.
Still, on the whole I love the forum and MOST of the forumites so I'm not going to be flouncing off in a mard anytime soon but see ya.
We love you admin
Right folks as the boss says, lets get back to talking about this beautiful and interesting building
Back on track - I like what is being done to the Gothic Building. The work being done is certainly more sympathetic and of a higher standard than the Island a few doors down.
UVPC windows should be banned for any house built before the 1960's, in my opinion.
Not going to disagree with you, but how does the price of normal wooden double glazed units compare to the upvc stuff? My house was built in 1900 and froz to death, and almost all of us have upvc.
No idea, we've had some units replaced but not the frames. We had 5 units replaced (they're only about 2 foot by 1) for £225.
You can get subtle UPVC to be fair, I know someone who has UPVC sash windows that look like wood, but so many people just put the bog standard ones up. Old houses tend to have lights and losing those (or changing the style) really loses some character I think.
