Group want to make Shirehall into arts and museum hub

So after months of deliberations and delay, the Prince’s Regeneration Trust, the independent experts paid by the Council to advise on the future of the Shire Hall, say that any of the proposals would be fine, and are advising the Council to appoint independent experts to decide.

So the Council that we elect to work on our behalf offload the job onto independent experts who then offload the job on to more independent experts. Are we to be told how much all these independent experts are costing, and how long that money could have kept the Shire Hall open for?

Not sure what you are getting at, what is wrong with that

That is deserving of this...

I would suggest that the honourable member is somewhat disappointed that public money has been handed to "experts" who have suggested that an art gallery, closed for lack of funds, might be reopened as an art gallery,

Just a guess...

Yep, but it wasn't closed for lack of funds. It was closed because the man who made the decision, doesn't understand what the arts are about so therefore thinks no one needs them.

The shirehall was closed because it was not viable as it is was as a MIXED venue:

Part gallery
Part shop
Part library
Part sensory
Part cafe
Part Wolverhampton uni.

Confusing mixed models are hard to work. With customers/ visitors to the venue almost halved the site was no longer viable for a council and could not ( and should not) be propped up by public funds.

So who is to say that a private entity could not make a success for an outright gallery and arts venue.

Why should that not be on the table? In fact it is a great option and would be outright dumb to exclude anything that could get the shirehall back up and use.

Nobody is saying that the right option should not be on the table.

Do you really need to pay people to tell you that?

I decided not to move my kitchen into the garage without involving any outside "experts".

You really don't get what I meant do you?

It WAS an art gallery and then SCC commission, at great expense, an outside contractor to produce a report and they suggest it could be an art gallery. I could have told them that.

As for being viable. The Shire Hall Gallery and Craft Shop covered their running costs and made a profit every year.

It was closed because the man at the top doesn't understand the arts and shut it because he thinks no one else needed it.

You clearly do not get it. I doubt you would have written such a report

for a start it clearly made a significant loss (over £100,000 in one of the most recent years), the gallery part was rubbish, visitors were plummeting the the hall rarely had anything new and was poorly managed.

The council have to do their due diligence and also have to consult with the public on a final proposal of use.

The council cannot simply to decide to do want they want on such buildings and unfortunately (and annoyingly) but rightly have to go through due process, hopefully they have learnt to do things right after the Records Office fiasco a couple of years ago especially if they want to apply for heritage funding.

What is repeated or what we already know in the report is neither here nor there ( we know the green is in a poor state).

Otherwise be clearly whether tou are mocking the idea/s proposed or the money it costing etc etc etc
