Guildhall closure?

Agreed.

Of the stalls there last time we went, about 2 or 3 had any real appeal for us. Mostly the store that sometimes has leather jackets, which the wife was quite intrigued by.

Off the top of my head I recall the market having few clothes shops, the cats protection stall (that would do amazingly if they had some cats there), a few tat stalls, and… some music stuff I think? I think there was a few craft stalls too maybe. It’s been a while…

Still, not as bad as the time there was a market on in town and one of the stalls was literally just selling Fruit of the Loom shit out of a box, which didn’t really feel all that in the spirit of things.

Don’t get me wrong there’s some good stuff there, but there’s also a few stalls that really don’t have much of a market any more. It’s absolutely important to have a good market though, especially with how ridiculous business rates and rents are these days you need an accessible route for small businesses.
Yup, we only go to the cats protection stall (our cats love their homemade mousies stuffed with cat nip...50peach) and the guy at the wallet/bag/key cutting stall. We used to use the butcher's, but it's gone.... & Although I've not bought anything from there for a while, the couple at the *homeware/pots/pans stall are lovely & I
speak to them quite often..

I might have to visit them soon on, my fancy can opener refuses to do its job, so I need an old fashioned little manual one & I'm sure they'll have one.

I get mice from the Cats Protection League stall specially to take down to my sister's cats in London; they love them.

I think so, but one that's fresh and new. That's not to say get rid of the traders now and start a fresh, but to nurture newer stalls that locals could support.

Stafford has some very large gaps in the high street that could be filled with a decent market stall.
I mean the council are trying ... But I think the whole place looks very dated and run down inside , think it would definitely thrive in a new location.

Could they not use the front end of the Shire Hall ? Isn't the front still mothballed and closed off , but the council still footing the bill and the upkeep ?

When I was with the ex, I used to market every week. Went from the fruit n veg stalls comparing prices, then ending up at the first one cos I could have a natter with the lady behind the counter. The butcher that was in the corner on the right as you came in from Wilkos used have the best smoked bacon, Black pud and Sausages. It's a shell of how it used to be.

The butchers gone now, the carer went regularly to get dripping....

I'm going back 20/30 years here though. I think Billingtons had 2 stalls in there? You could take your pick of butchers and greengrocers.

Two of my uncles had butchers stalls in the market. Both retired over 10 years ago, one unfortunately is no longer with us.
Tomlinsons butchers at Littleworth must be doing well for there to be at least three staff on yesterday afternoon.

And the latest news is....
Plans that align with a certain term used by a comedian. Let's grab a Campachoochoo, Col! Yah!

That looks very 60s and 70s in design. All you need to do is make it from concrete and it's almost brutalist design.

I wonder how many years it’ll stay unused for now it’s in our dynamic Council’s clutches?
In the 6 months or so they've been in charge, the new controlling group do seem to be much more proactive than the previous lot.

I do wonder if it will last and also (with the completion of the Market Square redevelopment, plus the plans for the Co-op, the Guildhall Centre and the railway station approach improvements) whether or not they are taking too much on.

This lot are certainly talking dynamic, we'll have to wait and see if they can deliver.
