Yorkshire Bank was there - or Anglia BS, even further back. Woolwich used to be opposite there, next to where Starbucks is now, I think - I have a sign from the skip when it was being gutted, about the safe being time-locked..

Halifax is down by the Britannia/Co-op Bank.

Aaaah thanks , getting mixed up.
Yorkshire Bank went soon after I'd called in to ask about an account and wasn't any staff in sight so I gave up. Was glad I hadn't been able to be served, with it going soon after!

Since when was this needed , it's Stafford not the city , and even then , a bouncer for a bank, ridiculous.
Security is normally assigned after an incident for a limited period. Tesco Express call them in after a set number of cases in a week. Staff quite often get the threat to their personal well being. ie I will wait til you leave work threat. If it makes the staff of the Halifax feel safer, I am all for it. I would rather Halifax use their money to pay for security and then they can can their awful stand by me TV adverts.

I have to wear a security camera now at work when I work on either customer service, kiosk or self scan, for exactly just those reasons. (Not just me)

. A guy that works at Asda told me they don't have them yet, shame, its prevented SOME of the idiocy.

The amount of times I've heard 'I'll be waiting for you in the car park when you finish your shift'... And I've had to be escorted to my car (private staff carpark, not the one out front) by male members of staff, as they REALLY have been waiting for me.

I can remember when you would see security staff racing through town to help out other shops if things were kicking off, these days i guess its easier and cheaper if absorb theft costs rather than pay guards wages

In the US they just have locked everything down. Go into a chemist and everything is in a glass case. A sad reflection of the modern state of law enforcement.

They still kind of do that, quite often the Iceland staff/managers will come over when theyve had shoplifters in, sometimes still following them and warning us of their presence and helping us deter further theft.... all shops are connected via security (if theyve opted in to it via the council so using radios and cctv), also our Argos team are a great help in thefts in our store...

If it was Halifax I think it might be to keep irate customers in check. I don't condone angry behaviour to retail/banking staff in any measure but have personal experience of how frustrating Halifax can be. When our boys were little we opened saving accounts for them where Halifax gave them a free plastic money box that sorted out their coins (to save) into 1ps, 2ps, 5ps etc which as a novelty encouraged them to save. Then when they had filled the money boxes we took the sorted change to Halifax to put in their savings account to which they told us they couldn't accept that much change🤣🤣. And that was the least of our frustration experienced with Halifax before we closed all accounts and chose a better bank.

A lot of banks charge for accepting lots of coins. Plus there's actual laws on the max amounts you can pay in coins:

  • For £2 and £1 coins: any amount
  • For 50p and 20p coins: up to £10
  • For 10p and 5p coins: up to £5
  • For 2p and 1p coins: up to 20 pence

basil

don't mention the blinds
Depositing 5k in folding is allowed, however it's reportable to HMRC.......

NB. Could be 10k.....

Whatever.....

HGAF ? ........

Kind of proves my point. Why would a bank give children a free device for saving change unless they planned on making money out them 🤔. Trust me this was just the tip of the iceberg with Halifax so we simply voted with our feet and took our business elsewhere. Not rocket science. If someone doesn't like the service they are getting for the money spent they have a choice... Get wound up and annoyed with the company's staff for policies that the staff have no control over or..... Take your business elsewhere.. simples.
