There no saying that any data backup company will continue trading, sure. But it's a backup only. You still have the files on your PC too.
If the company stops trading, you simply find another and start over again.
1poundbackup is part of WMR Computers, but the service itself comes from Livedrive. If they ever made huge price increases that I couldn't cope with, that that could make me go "bump"... but if that time came you could just to livedrive directly or find an alternative - either way it's peace of mind while it's there and for just £1 per month compared to their own charge of £4.95... for unlimited backup it's cheap.
As for "data retrieval in 20 years time" then yes of course this is realistic... if it weren't then they would be in the wrong business. Imagine your files residing on 3 different hard drives in their system. One of their hard drives dies but they still have 2 copies. They replace the hard drive and it gets "mirrored" once again.
It is far more reliable than DVD discs which it has been argued COULD possibly "blank themselves" after several years due to the way the dye holds your data. (Unless of course you produce an entire DVD backup every couple of years to be safe = ballache)
