Help wanted - "Stafford PC Experts"

Does any one know of a computer repair company called Stafford PC experts tel.01785 318155. according to the yellow pages they operate from newport rd stafford post code ST16 1DB. They collected my hard drive on Monday last 16th May having given a price and promised to return it on the next wednesday 18th. However this didn't happen and when i called they had doubled the price. initially i said i would't pay and wanted my hard drive back. they then got very aggresive making all sorts of threats and wanted my DEBIT card details before they would return the item. i refused but did give my credit card. they said that this had been refused by the bank, this is untrue as I have checked on 3 occasions and my bank are adamant no effort has been made to use the card. when i told them this they again became abusive and threatening demanding my Debit card details. i refused and suggested I visite their premises with the agreed cash amount but they refused to tell me where they operate from. the post code relates to domestic houses on newport rd. I am concerned that this is a scam and possible attempt at identity fraud or just stealing my and other hard drives. obviously these are only my thoughts i am not accusing anyone of anything at this time but i have personal phots etc that i want back. Can anyone please help. or has anyone suffered similarly if so perhaps we can put a case together for either the police or trading standards.

This sure sounds odd, I would personally look up the company details to start of with going as they advertise in the yellow pages, If they have promised a price and have since doubled that price it sounds to me to be a tad unprofessional, More to the point if they are been aggressive and abusive I would suggest you more than have grounds to go to trading standards or the police, But i would look into the company a bit more to see what else you can find just my thoughts on it really. Shame you did not say about the drive on here as other members can vouch for the likes of myself or wmr

Hi cjg, welcome to Stafford Forum. :)

Please make sure you let us know how you get on! I'm sure any information you can glean will be most useful for others, especially if they are googling around for the company name!

Thanks.

A cursory search by me came up with nothing at all for the name or the number. I would be seeking advice from Trading Standards in the morning - and following it up with wmrcomputers or gdavies if I did manage to get the device back....

Whilst I do all my own 'pooter work, I have to say both wmrcomputers and gdavies both have proven track records on this forum. I also used to work for JC Computing (now stafford computing), and despite several disagreements with customers we didn't overcharge people in the 2 years I was there. I have to say though, some peoples expectations were VERY high. Data recovery experts charge thousands, don't expect it ffor a 25 quid charge.

On this matter I'd say call the police, as they are demanding money with menaces. then get in touch with somone with a reputation.

Could the postcode be for the Royal Mail sorting office on Newport Road? Perhaps its a PO Box?

The only person that I know who lives near there is ex-directory. I'll see if I can track him down for some local info...

Edit:- I have laid a trap with a chap that he works with, may take a day or two..

The following message was posted on a facebook page - Stafford remembered - 1970's and 1980's - if anyone else has had any dealings (good or bad) please let people know.

This is copied and pasted - and not my report.

"This is not a Stafford Remembered thing I know but a concerned member has asked me to post something as there are many Staffordians reading this who may be able to help, but if they can't, at least they have been be told of this rogue trader. Has anyone had any dealings with 'Stafford PC Experts'. Their number was taken from the yellow pages and the member in question arranged to have his pc fixed. After the pc was collected they contacted the member and told him it would cost double. This he disputed, only to be told that if he didnt pay the hard drive would not be returned. He offered to pay with credic card but was then told it had been refused(the bank was contacted and confrirmed that no attempt was made to collect the payment) they INSISTED on his debit card details, which the member refused to give. He offered to pay by cash but they would not give him an address. The address on yellow pages was given as ST16 1DB which is the Newport Rd. NOT the real address. Can anyone help?
