surely phoning your landlord is your only option? i know it's a bit late, but serves him right for turning the alarm on a) without your permission and b) without telling you the code!noir2985 said:I just arrived back to my house and some evil bastard landlord has come in and put the alarm on and we don't know the code. Is there any way to make it stop without knowing the code? I think I'm going to have to sleep in my muddy car
i'm pretty sure they are legally entitled to enter the premises without the tennant's specific consent, but they have to give 24 hours notice..FooFighter said:Can the landlord enter the property without your prior knowledge?
Is far as i know there is no legal thing that covers this, although there is normally standard practice that landlords give you 24 hours notice of there intention to visit.dirtybobby said:i'm pretty sure they are legally entitled to enter the premises without the tennant's specific consent, but they have to give 24 hours notice..FooFighter said:Can the landlord enter the property without your prior knowledge?
so basically, he could tell you "i'm coming round and letting myself in whether you like it or not", but he would have to let you know at least 24 hours beforehand.. if he just came in, unannounced, while you weren't there, and set the alarm - defo a breach of your rights..
I would if I could find it! They open at 10 so I'm going to call and politely ask why the hell the alarm is on.gota quid said:can i suggest having a look at your rent agreement and see what is written and signed for under orwner access.
Burning the house down would probably do it...noir2985 said:Is there any way to make it stop without knowing the code?
Hehe, I would have done just that if I could. Thank fully it stopped after 20 minutes, so I went downstairs to have a look but I set it off again, so was trapped in my room until I found out the code. Turned out the house had changed hands and no one had any contacts for the new landlords and the old people wanted nothing to do with me! They did give me the old code though which worked. I was ready to throttle someone!Moley said:
i think it might also be worth speaking to the letting agents and getting them to remind the new landlord of the rules about notice before entering the premises.noir2985 said:Turned out the house had changed hands and no one had any contacts for the new landlords and the old people wanted nothing to do with me!
