I checked out The Market Vaults (formerly Joxers) and it was good

They've really done some wizardry in there, it looks bigger than it used to be. They've even got a faux fire that smokes...wonder how many people will throw rubbish on it!

Good job lads.

And before going in there I went in that Yum Yums place. I've found my new favourite shop.

I was a bit worried by the sign mentioning wines from around the world, I hope they haven't ponced it up too much!

Whereas for me, this sounds fantastic!

Andreas mentioned to me that they're thinking of redecorating in a Victorian era vibe - an truth to this? I hope so.. I'd love somewhere where I could go, dressed as a chap, and quaff a few sherries while chuffing on my pipe.. If they had an opium corner, even better! :teef:

I've been to 'check it out' today too and they've done a great job. Love it. Also had the pleasure of meeting Darts22, a.k.a John 'Inns and Alehousesof Stafford' Connor. Lovely chap...can't wait til his book is out!

I haven't been in yet, but judging from the outside (ooo, shallow!) , someone could do with cleaning up the paint drips and splashes on the wood up at the windows. - Just saying like. <walks off. whistling Dad's Army theme tune>

Bring back "The Chains" says I!!

I refer the Right Honourable Member to the answer another Right Honourable Member gave some moments ago...
DISCLAIMER - For those who don't know, I am dogs-body and bar staff at this establishment.

We get the question about the name-change an awful lot from people. I can tell you the thinking of the last 3 landlords and managers. The Chains had an awful reputation for being both dirty and rough. We still get a lot of that as well, lots of people tell us they wouldn't think of drinking in our pub because they still think it's a rough pub with trouble. That can be a difficult image to shift. So going back to the old name would only enhance this image/connection in people's minds.

Whether that would turn out to be true or not, I don't know. But it is certainly the opinion of the current landlord and the last few I've known.

A proper Town centre pub with a community feel. The low hanging lights may sort one or two age ID issues out though! :P

Was gutted I missed the opening night - but by 8pm I was shattered and went to bed

Had a little nosy when I went past yesterday - looked lovely - nice to have a pub of substance in Stafford!

How do I edit this?
We'll be rocking out here tonight and probably scuffing up a few of the freshly polished tables - you should probably come on down! :)

popped in this place with andreas rex t'other week.. absolutely lovely.. has a really cosy and welcoming feel throughout, and i love what they've done with what used to be the live music corner - it's now got a (faux) open fire, beautifully upholstered chairs, pew style booths - it really is an incredibly inviting place to have a sit down drink and a natter..

i don't go into town much, given the fact that i hate people, but if every i do find myself out and about i will blates be squirrelling myself away in the market vaults..

Went in today, like the place but they've ditched the ciders! No more heritage, although I wasn't a massive fan of that anyway, but more importantly no more thatchers gold - they've swapped it for strongbow. They do have bottles of Addlestone, but it's not something I'd drink more than one or two of at a time. Ended up in the greyhound again, with a bottle of old rascal.

How very sensible of you TekM, Marstons took off Thatchers's Gold and replaced it with bottled Addlestones which I doubt has seen a an apple in its life, put up its price by a minimum of 35p for less than a pint and fondly imagines that the world is going to flock to buy it...I think not
