Whereas for me, this sounds fantastic!I was a bit worried by the sign mentioning wines from around the world, I hope they haven't ponced it up too much!
Bring back "The Chains" says I!!
DISCLAIMER - For those who don't know, I am dogs-body and bar staff at this establishment.
We get the question about the name-change an awful lot from people. I can tell you the thinking of the last 3 landlords and managers. The Chains had an awful reputation for being both dirty and rough. We still get a lot of that as well, lots of people tell us they wouldn't think of drinking in our pub because they still think it's a rough pub with trouble. That can be a difficult image to shift. So going back to the old name would only enhance this image/connection in people's minds.
Whether that would turn out to be true or not, I don't know. But it is certainly the opinion of the current landlord and the last few I've known.
Reclaim the 'C' word, that's what I say!http://www.staffordforum.com/xf/index.php?threads/the-chains.6738/

I fear we approach the stable door, Chains in hand, to find the horse has bolted.Bring Back The Chains!
Went in today, like the place but they've ditched the ciders! No more heritage, although I wasn't a massive fan of that anyway, but more importantly no more thatchers gold - they've swapped it for strongbow. They do have bottles of Addlestone, but it's not something I'd drink more than one or two of at a time. Ended up in the greyhound again, with a bottle of old rascal.
