I'm stuck - I need to find temporary accommodation in Stafford and don't know where to look

I'll put you in the picture. Last summer I broke my thigh-bone. I am an oldster - 75. Anyway, when it was time to be discharged from hospital the social care people said they didn't think it was safe for me to go back to my house alone so I was discharged to a care home for respite. It was only supposed to be for a few months and I'm still there. My social worker now wants me to think about an exit plan from the care home (which is in the south of the county - not Stafford - there wasn't anywhere in Stafford with a vacancy at the time).

The suggestion has been sell the house at auction but I don't own it outright and the person who owns it jointly (doesn't live there) doesn't want to sell - wants to get it put right. If it was up to me I'd go back to the house even if it is manky but Housing Standards from the council have said it has gone down since I've been away.

The only thing I can think of is see if I can find a temporary bedsit. I don't think I can approach a charity because while I have a house even if it is in manky condition I am not deemed to be homeless. I think I am probably going to be looking at the private sector. At present with a manky leg - I still need an aid while walking and probably will for the rest of my life now. So I'd be looking for something accessible and affordable maybe ground floor unless they have a lift. I know the Newsletter sometimes advertises accommodation - has anybody any idea where I might look. I have a feeling it is going to have to be in the private sector.

Has anybody got any ideas where I might look apart from the Newsletter though I will try the papers of course. I'm a pensioner and still have to pay the Council tax on my own place so I'm trying to look for somewhere that's not going to bankrupt me. I'd be grateful if anyone has any ideas.

Well yes, but believe me, I used to be a legal secretary at one time and the only people who really win if you go to law are the lawyers, plus it would cause bad feeling in the family which I want to avoid.

And there is no bad feeling in the family from you being left homeless? The other party could have started doing it up to sell while it was vacant? Sorry, no really helping you, just always find it awful when families put money over blood. If you stop using the property as your main address and declare it vacant can't you avoid the council tax for a bit? Then when it kicks in again it will be the other parties problem too.

As for properties, things are horrendous lately. Prices are mental, a room in a HMO is now almost double what I last rented a 3 bedroom house for 15 years ago but wages haven't gone up in a similar way!

There's no way you can go back to.your old accomodation? Get help moving the bedroom.fownstsirs etc?.Or does the other owner live there & not want the responsibility of your care if you move back?

Siry you should be deemed homeless ? I really hope you find something x

If housing standards have deemed it unfit to live in, them surely they should provide you with something suitable...even if it's to stay where you srey? (Sorry for the intrusive questions).

Sorry - I haven't logged in for a few days. Thanks for those who have made suggestions.

Things are so darn expensive these days. I've not found anything yet but I'll keep looking on Spare Room and similar places. I did ask one charity that a friend suggested but they don't do temporary places. I was flying a kite a bit by asking here but I thought it doesn't hurt to ask. I've lost nothing by asking.

Prior to the accident I got around okay for my age - I mean I wasn't jumping round like a young rabbit or anything but jogging along. I'll see if there's anywhere I can put out feelers.
