I've just got a Wii!

this thing is seriously fun.. even getting it out of the box was fun - this thing looks beautiful, has been designed and assembled by geniuses, and the controls just feel perfect in your hand..

it's the size of a decent book, yet the functionality it offers is unsurpassed.. even before you pop an actual Wii game in, it will play all my old gamecube games (complete with 4 concealed ports for original gamecube controllers), i can browse the internet, download all the classics (sonic, zelda, etc.) and play them perfectly, get a news/weather update, go shopping, etc. etc..

i have a bonar :v:

I played on one for a couple of hours on Friday night. Sadly I got bored pretty quickly. It's a cool idea but the novelty just wore off with me.

The PS3 on the other hand looks sublime. I may have to wait a year or two before I splash out on one of those. A wee bit expensive.

behave! anyone who spends £500 on a games console needs their head read.. the PS3 just does exactly the same as all those that came before it, except with higher resolution graphics and a few other bells and whistles.. it still uses the same awful controller design, for god's sake!

the wii has made me realise what i miss about gaming - fun.. i don't mean in a clichéd "hurrr 8-bit games for the win" way.. i mean fun for the sake of fun..

traditionally, my favourite games have always been stuff like Far Cry, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Metroid Prime, etc.. now, these are great games, but you spend the whole time bricking it, wondering what horde of headless beasties are going to attack you next.. i love horror films, so i always felt it was fun to get immersed in that sort of environment..

however, after playing the wii i realise i miss good, wholesome fun, with cutesy graphics and daft sound effects.. where the emphasis is on having a good time, not shitting your keks!

anyway.. i have to go to work.. toodle-pip!

Nice one dizirty. I tried to buy one of these just after they came out. Really want to have a go on the fishing and boxing. Did you get the sports package?? Where did you get it from as well?

Like I said the novelty wore off with 'me'. I still enjoy the PS2 despite all the cables and the XBox. I'll stick with those tbh, just felt there was more depth which is something I like and adds to my enjoyment.

yeah of course, and of course i didn't mean to imply that your opinion on games/chosen platform is wrong (which obviously it isn't - it's your opinion after all).. i just think the PS3 is a tremendous shot in the foot for sony.. it's massively over-priced (and yet they still lose money on every unit sold) and doesn't actually do anything to change or progress the gaming experience..

there's nothing wrong with that per se - i think the xbox 360 is a great piece of kit - but nintendo are once again proving themselves to be tremendous innovators and they are the ones leading the way in the evolution of video gaming..

that's the best bit, splew - i got it on a promo through work so it only cost me a ton!!

yeah, they all come with the sports package.. it's more just a showcase of the Wii's controller & interface than a fully fledged game, and its novelty value may not last long for some.. but i've got Rayman: Raving Rabbids with it as well, which is farking hilarious.. gonna get Zelda and Super Monkey Ball as welli reckons..

lol I do agree with you about the £500 for a console (£425 with no games - WTF!?!?!?)
I got an XBox360 which is slightly modified but more on that some other time...but I most DEFINITELY do want a PS3 when they drop below £350 :) hehe.
The wii would be better if it at least supported HD resolutions :( SD/ED is ok for a 20" TV, but for a 46" HDTV it's just blocky and resembles a poorly encoded QuickTime Movie lol.

why? it would look better, but that wouldn't affect the gameplay in any way..

my wii outputs 480p via component to my HD 32" LCD, and it looks absolutely brilliant..

gah component video...my xbox360 does that, and it really does look crap compared to HDMI from my PC :(
i'm just picky lol. I know the wii's way cheaper so shouldnt expect much haha seeing as i spent more on just a graphics card that what the entire wii costs lol.

i know it aint all about the graphics...but on a 1920x1080p panel, anything less than 720p is definitely NOT gravy :(

you seem to have missed the point.. i, too, have a media PC in my front room, connected by HDMI to my nice big LCD TV.. it's nothing new, girlfriend :nyd:

however, if the missus is busy playing the sims 2*, it's nice to be able to relax on the sofa and just browse the web, view youtube, check the forum, etc. all using the wii remote, without having to resort to my (albeit very sexy) logitech wireless keyboard & mouse..

(* = the PC is connected to an LCD monitor as well, in case one wants to use it for PC related matters without tying up the TV)

A few posts under my belt
I brought a wii at Midnight on release day (after queuing for 3 1/2 hours)

It is still fab but they don't release that many good games for it. Zelda was the best in my opinion.

the wii is currently outselling the PS3 by 5 to 1 in japan :D

Bought one today and it's the poodles parts.

IMO Bobby is right on the money with his opinion on it - FUN

I'm a PC on-line fps gamer so this is totally different as it's so interactive.

I am a really competitive person so losing at tennis to my wife didn't go down well (the losing not the wife ;))

Having looked at the PS3 I thought the graphics were pretty much what my PC can produce and that was on a on a decent size HDTV (disks and discs Stafford Sony console set-up)

Anyone recommend any of the later releases?
I've the standard sports plus the Wii play package
