Knights BMW Stafford

  • Myself and my wife went into knights at Stafford this morning, to establish a rough idea for the costing of a 520d se, on BMW select, thinking of purchasing in 12-18 months time. we are a young professional couple. I have to say, I was shocked by the customer service I recieved by the salesman, who I will not mention his name on in public domain. Myself and my wife, felt ushered out of knights, even after explaining we already own a 5 series, which we have been very impressed with and would like to buy a new model. The way we felt when leaving was that we were too young to have the money to buy a bmw, that we had no business being there. I will not be returning to knights, but will take my custom elsewhere for there poor customer service.

Pop up to knights in Newcastle just off the A500, it's worlds apart. You won't believe they are the same company.

On a side note, parts at BMW in stafford are very good and very helpful, so whilst the sales side of things appears to be lacking, please don't be put off if you do need to visit the parts department.

EDIT: Also too young to be able to afford a 5 series? They do realise they're not exactly expensive cars these days..

Mid spec Mondeo: 22,000
Same spec 5 series: 30,500

Combine that with the fact the BMW will return surperior fuel economy (by quite a margin), servicing (believ it or not) is significantly cheaper on the BMW and when it comes to sell the BMW will have depreciated less.

I had a similar experience in Land Rover, after much nagging by my husband to give the Range Rover a go (I hate them with a passion) I decided it wouldn't hurt to have a look. I pulled into the car park in my 2004 Hilux (2010) wearing normal everyday clothes (jeans/boots) and I couldn't get anyone to help me. I was told in order to test drive you need to book in advance and they did not want to help at all. About 6 months later I had to return to order something for my husband’s Land Rover. I pulled into the car park in my brand new Land cruiser, smartly dressed from work and the sales team were falling over themselves to get me to take one out. Bunch of Wonkers!

I must admit I have bought my car matts from knights, they were fine on the parts side of things, but both me and my wife were so disgusted in this salesman, how we were treated and how unhelpful he was. just didnt want to know.

On the day they decided your face don't fit. Although you have to have some sympathy for the poor guy who has to sell cars all day that he'll never be able to afford himself.
My only regret with Landrover was that I didn't tell them exactly where to stick it.

You could look on it as being a bit educational - it's probably a bit like being black, but just for a few seconds..

Some people get this sort of thing all the time.

No, still have the same one, it's not a fancy one or anything, just a working truck, my husband loves it and would have another one when the time comes, although we wont be getting it from the place on Astonfields!

You'd be surprised, they get some pretty spectacular discounts on the cars (around cost price, and 0% interest paid via salary sacrifice) and they also get a fair whack on comission.

Unless you want really expensive options or the hot models BMWs are hardly expensive. Why you'd buy a mondeo over a 3 series is beyond me but hey ho.

the 5 series I have seen is 31k, but bmw select means I pay probably 3-400 a month and get a new bmw every 2-4 years..

They were the same with me. Because I had the temerity to turn wearing scruffy jeans and sweatshirt they automatically made an assumption. Land Rover in Wolverhampton, however, did not make that mistake and treated me like royalty. Funnily enough they made a sale.

Hang on Shoes you BMW lover, you. Think how big the potential discount is on a new Mondeo in comparison to a 5 series. My inlaws got a £24k Galaxy for £15.5k from Bristol Street (ordered in the spec they wanted). So the Mondeo could potentially be half the price of the 5 series and its just as good a car really.
Also the 5 series will be an SE spec with the tiny little wheels that look lost in the arches. Although that's not such a bad thing as the "Muh Sport" model looks a bit max power (not as chav tastic as the latest M5 though) and with BMW insisting on fitting ladies tyres to its mundane models at least it wont ride to badly.
I cant be arsed to look up the spec sheets you quote, but I will agree the BMW will be better on fuel - wont be any more reliable than a Ford though.
Personally I wouldn't buy a new rep mobile be it a Ford or a BMW as they suffer from big depreciation. They make good used buys once the fleets have finished with them though.

There is one thing nobody seems to have picked up on here. Pete did you tell them you were not looking to actually buy a car for at least another year? Salesmen move around so often the chap was probably thinking he wouldn't even be working there when you came back. Having said that he would still have been better off kissing your arse just to be on the safe side.
