A few civic facts:

Stafford Borough's gold mace is one of only two which are laid to rest vertically, because King James said so.
where's the other one? why did jimmy insist on this novel placement? :raise:

Within the Borough the Mayor of Stafford is, in ceremonial terms, superior to all but the Monarch and the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire. Even Barack Obama would, technically, have to cede precedence within the Borough boundaries. (I don't think this is unique to Stafford, but it's interesting)
damn straight! so, that means, at one time in the not-so-distant past, a member of this very forum wielded almost ultimate power within the borough (by proxy), and we never even knew :rich:

Mrs. Doggy Dogg is usually quite perturbed when The Doggfather announces an imminent "curly sue"

Maybe not according to the unnamed author of a letter in today's Stafford Newsletter !!
Whats the jist of the letter. I was trying to find out who John Amery was a month or so back and couldnt get past the nazi sympathiser, however he didnt appear to have any links to Stafford.

All this has reminded me of a job I notice on a daily basis and then immediately forget - but, I've done it now.

There are two trellises in the conservatory, held in place for the last 25 years by some plain steel screws. These have rusted in the humid conditions, slightly staining the surrounding wood and I have finally replaced them with stainless ones now. Job ticked off.

I had planned to also do Mr Amery's plate, but I'm not around there a lot these days.

Five years ago, I did this one at the 'far end' of the park.

It would be interesting to see how they have progressed in that time.
