LAN party

Greetings all.

I am sure that this conversation may have been touched upon in the past..

However.

I have been charged with the task of setting up a LAN party for february next year.

I have been searching around for a few days now, and have been having some trouble finding a suitable venue.

We need to rent a venue from a Friday morning to a Monday evening.
24 hour access is required.
Internet access is required, though if there is a phone line, I can get a DSL line put in temporarily.

Finally, as the event is actually a Stag in disguise for the geeky people. We need to make damn sure we've got access to a bar at least half of the time.

Venue needs to hold about 50 people for 72 hours...

We're in talks with the commercial estate agents on the tech park for a temporary lease on a property for a few days - which is showing promise, but again, DSL lines are coming up empty.


Does anyone have any recommendations, words of wisdom, or numbers for strippers?

i can't help you with any of the things you ask, i'm afraid, but i'd love to know how this pans out, so make sure you remember to report back! welcome to the forum

There are a few empty places on the tech park, no idea what they'd want to rent one though? If you can get the old Tribal one (Unit E IIRC, Gillette Close) its all wired up with floor points every few feet for power and net access. Used to work there as their techy.

Mostly Millar Sandy and Pritchard Properties control the Stafford properties.. Rent PA is about £20k for a unit... All we need to do is convince them that they could do press releases and get themselves some free advertising and we should be in for some cheap negotiations there

The only regret I'll have with this one is the age old Stag do tradition of "if you bring in a camera, we will drag you out into the woods and set you aflame"
So the only memories we wil have will be masked by tequila...

are you mad?? i'm pretty sure we took enough photos at Guvnor's stag do that you could edit them together and make a feature length movie lol.. i think there's a photo knocking around on here somewhere of him having a pole dance while he sits there with leg-warmers on and fluroescent-pink dildos gaffer-taped to his hands lol

Firstly, I am being hired to do this, plus it will be a useful promotion for my company.


And second......... Strippers........ computer games........ drinking.......... 4 days......

I still think it's a pretty lame idea for a stag do (no offence to you djwellis, but Mr Best Man.....COME ON!?!?), however I think we should have a staffordforum LAN party! We've all blatantly got access to 'puters, and can't all be in the same place all at once...

i think you've misunderstood the concept lol..

the picture in that wiki article is hilarious..

· endless cans of mountain dew - check!

all they need is a picture of veronica mars as their wallpaper and the stereotype is complete!

no, i mean you stating that we "can't all be in the same place at once" flies in the face of one of the pre-requisites of a LAN party.. namely, all being in the same place at once!

i wasn't trying to pick holes, i'm just not sure what you mean! lol.. how could we have a party if we're not in the same room? do you mean everyone get drunk and chat about it on MSN? lol..

for the record, i don't have superior tech knowledge on this subject! i've never even been invited to a "LAN party", and to be honest, whilst i would have had a good guess, i wasn't 100% sure what one involves 'til i read your wiki link lol..

I thought a LAN party WAS over the internet so why rent a room and fill it with computers and people and then try to connect with each other????
