i wasn't trying to pick holes, i'm just not sure what you mean! lol.. how could we have a party if we're not in the same room?
I was reading LAN as 'a network not necessarily in the same room or building', as opposed to the literal meaning, which if I wasn't so tired would have interpretted correctly. I didn't read the full Wiki entry (my bad..), but glanced at it and came to my own conclusion. Bed time.

I thought a LAN party WAS over the internet so why rent a room and fill it with computers and people and then try to connect with each other????

V. weird!!!!
no, that's the thing - kids these days custom fit their PCs like they're souped-up vauxhall novas, so they can show them off at these parties in the same way pikies do with their cars in mcdonald's car park!

you get custom PC cases now with names like "LANboy" and stuff, that are lightweight and have handles built-in so that it's easy to cart your "gaming rig" round a mate's house, and then laugh at them because they've only got single graphics card set-ups and can only manage 4x anistropic anti-aliasing..

it's a strange world we're living in, i tells ya!

please don't feel like we're taking the piss, djwellis! this is all just a bit foreign to us - even though i consider myself a hardened geek :haw:

I've been to a few of these, we used to play in a clan on Tac Ops and Counter Strike. About once a year everyone would converge on Stafford and swap porn, sometimes we played games :D

I say now, here's fun....

Ended up at uni with some of those fine fellows...
They do LANs on a pretty big scale (few thousand, apparently)...

Not been to one myself, but there are photos on the left under "event coverage" for those of you who have an intrigue....

Ahhh - LAN party. Haven't been to one of those for a few yonks.

Nothing like a weekend of bad food, caffeine, dubious personal hygiene and no sleep :) And shouts of, "Who the **** was that," when you sneak up on your bestest buddy and do the only honourable thing - frag 'im. :teef:

Ah - thems was the days. Ludicrous Quake skins - anyone ever played as R2D2 with the gun gaffa taped to his head? I think it was doom that had the 7ft tube of aquafresh toothpaste - either that or I had too much to drink???
