Guys i would like your opinion on limewire me personally think its a great programme, you can download anything (practically).

Their is one MAJOR bad point to it and thats all of the 'pornography' that shows if you type the word 'movie' but you can just ignore all that :)

limewire's a massive pain in the arse.. p2p as we used to know it is dead, imo (limewire, emule, etc.).. it's all about µtorrent and a decent tracker :P

avoid avoid.. it's bases on that gnutella, gnomezilla whatever stuff and will riddle your machine with spyware

It's worth paying a few quid for something more trustworthy rather than torrenting and all that jazz . I am told this sites files are fairly safe and theres a free trial version too

www.usenext.com

have been using it for ages now and no probs at all..

yeah - that's not p2p that's usenet, and it is probably the single most useful resource on the internet.. almost all the stuff you see floating around torrent sites (private or otherwise) originates from usenet.. it's where all the mad über-l33t script kiddies hang out to get their l33t warez :teef:

Ah yes course it is.. what I did mean to mention was my download speeds are
about 1130 Kbits which aint three bad.. so from my experience the usenext system is not only safer but it is git faster too ..and it seems to be idiot proof which for me is a good thing
Basically idf you haven't tried it I would recommend the free 3GB offer ..nothing to loose and all that ..

Limewire is ok for run of the mill stuff, problem is you are relying on other peoples categorising skills for the info to download. i.e tracks which you think are from one album may be from another (live, unreleased). Also you can always download anything that bears no resemblence whatsoever to the actual song/movie you wanted.

Torrents however, are much more reliable and generally categorised correctly and I take my hat off to the man who invented kvcd's!!

If you're after music try Soulseek. Although it sounds like some dodgy dating service its actually a superb, adware/malware free, P-P client. Although you do have to sometimes "ask" permission to download from some users. I've found everything on there from the deepest minimal grime-glitchism to Haddaway.

Check it here: http://www.slsknet.org/

Avoid Limewire/Kazaa/Bearshare, etc. like the plague, unless you want your browsing habits to be monitored by a purple monkey that wont go away even after hitting ur machine with a hammer.

I also agree Torrents are gud (better for films, software, games (limited to only popular music imo)): Try (client):

uTorrent - http://www.utorrent.com/
Azureus - http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

and grab yourr torrents from http://www.mininova.org/

Furthermore, you dont actually have to pay to access USENET. USENET has been around since the single-cell organisms roamed the earth and I believe it was created by a sentient race of limestone oblong shaped blocks. USENET has no reliance on other peers e.g. for torrents or P-P so you get MAXimum speed for your connection downloads.

Your ISP "should" provide a USENET server for you to access. For NTL the server address is "news.ntlworld.com" on port 119. You will need a usenet client to access, and one capable of rebuilding those usenet posts (USENET is actually a BBS) into full length hollywood bollux is Grabit: "http://www.shemes.com/"

As mentioned in this thread however, you may get a richer selection of goodies if you pay to access a USENET server (e.g. using the USENETX client). Grabit also offers this "pay" service, but its worth using the torrent method if you cannot find what you want on USENET and spend those pennies saved on custard creams.

SoulSeek is a quality p2p but I always use DC++. It's not a multi source but there are people with fast connections. It's ideal for music and hard to find films. DC++ has plenty of hubs from all over the place. Generally peers files are labelled correctly and albums come with sfv & diz files. Got to be torrents for run of the mill films, uTorrent the best client.

WinMX was a good p2p a few years ago, still works if you get the patch. There a lot of fake files on there now though. It always gave file sharing a sense of being a sleazy and dark world.
