I had many good years working for the company and as much as I'm angry of the way things ended I wish them all the best for the future

Stafford shop and rugely will be reopen ing their doors once again in the near future
Not a surprise. Obviously under a different name. I wouldn't wish them all the best - they've just put you on the unemployment list after 17 years of loyalty mate, and without even giving you any warning it was happening. I think it's a disgrace.

Hi - I feel really sorry for you & your colleagues - this sounds dreadfully badly managed. Something similar happened to me around 12 years ago - and it turns out that the company I was working for hadn't paid any NIC or tax for most of its employees.

You should check these links out - all employees are entitled to redundancy payments after qualifying periods - the Job Centre in Greyfriars House can advise - ask for their rapid response service

https://www.gov.uk/redundant-your-rights/overview

The government covers some payments for employees where a company is insolvent (not sure if this is a company or not)

https://www.gov.uk/your-rights-if-your-employer-is-insolvent/overview

Anyone not paid their redundancy should also go and see Citizens Advice and get legal advice

We were told we are all to receive forms to claim redundancy, what was owed to us in holidays and because we had no notice we would get extra money for that. I haven't received any forms yet neither have some of my old work friends who I have spoken to today. Well the lowndes have until the end of the week or I will pay them a visit and i will demand these forms.

@Paul smith - I would try to get the forms yourself rather than wait for Lowndes as the sooner you apply the sooner you may get some kind of payment.

Also, I don't want to disappoint you but redundancy pay can be crap, my husband was made redundant 2 years ago from a company he had worked for for 12years, his redundancy including holiday pay was equivalent to a months wages.

Get yourself down to the C.A.B as soon as you can...

I know what you are saying I've been told many things about the redundancy, 1 is we get 1 weeks wage for all the years we worked for them and because no notice we get 3 months full pay for that

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
When I was put out of work in similar circumstances four years ago, I had to claim from the government as well.

I received:
1 week pay for every year I had worked, up to a maximum amount of £400 per week. The maximum number of weeks you can receive is 12 weeks pay.
Pay for any holiday entitlement still left for that year.
Two week pay in lieu of notice (because any notice period should have been 2 weeks).

This was four years ago so the details may have changed.

I forgot to mention that if you work during your 'notice' or 'redundancy' period then whatever you receive will be deducted from the final amount.

So if you worked for Lowndes for 8 years, you would get 8 weeks pay as redundancy but if you got a new job after 6 weeks, you would lose whatever you have been paid from the final two weeks pay.

Should be reopening this weekend.

Is it reopening with the same owners or different owners?

If it is the same owners then they had no need to dismiss the staff.

If it is new owners then the Lownes would have known about their closure months ago and so they could have given the staff more notice.

You cant just find new owners AND sort the paperwork out in a week. Also even if it IS new owners, wouldnt it have been the decent thing to do to keep the loyal/existing staff employed?
