Morrisons coming to Stafford?

Am I the only one who things Morrisons is going to struggle in Stafford, With Sainsburys, Tesco & Asda all chasing the same customers, it seems such a shame to have another shop which caters for the same shopper. Feel it was a lost opportunity not to have something like Waitrose, with Debs not coming as well seems we are having all this investment to have more of what we have now the same..

I dunno, I rarely use anyone other than Sainsburys now in town itself and that is merely because it is on my route home. I buy essentials from Lidl and junk from Home Bargains, I'd actually welcome a Morrisons simply because they carry ranges the others don't.

I think the point was that Waitrose is aimed at a different target market to what we have already in the town and therefore might offer something different whereas Morrisons isn't

I'd welcome them and Aldi into the town.

With the population of the town expanding, people still have to eat and buy those necessities for day to day living, The current stores are already packed out, or at least are when I ever I descend in to them.

Plus as tek-monkey says...they stock items the others don't, especially on the various items in beers, wines and spirits. Makers Mark for starters.

Perhaps you have had different experience at Waitrose to me. Everyone I've been in is generally more of the same.

Besides I though the perception was:
Budget Supermarkets: Asda, Morrisons, Tesco
Premium: Sainsburies, Waitrose, and M&S

Whether it's a Morrisons or a Waitrose, I honestly don't think it would add anything new.

That said, Morrisons do usually have the best salad bars. <3

Personally, from the few Waitrose stores I have been into they have always been extremely friendly, clean, and a pleasant environment to be in.

Also, I highly admire their policy on employing persons of all abilities....especially those with either mental or social difficulties. For me they get a HUGE thumbs up for that policy alone.

However, I digress.....Morrisons....should be interesting!

I like morrisons they always seem to have better fruit, veg, deli, cooked meats and bakery sections than the others.

Agreed - I use the Morrisons in Stone and Rugeley and probably still will as the Stafford traffic puts me off going into town. For me , it's much easier to go the other way.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Morrisons stores always seem old fashioned to me.

Stafford isn't wealthy enough for a Waitrose now.

Cooked meat, fruit and veg, some interesting northern cakes and buns, also some different sauces. As somebody said it adds to the competition.

My dwindling disposable income is mighty glad a Waitrose isn't coming to Stafford - since they always have the best selection of cheese etc, and I'm not a massive fan of Morrisons, I've always found, like Asda, many of the actual items they sell dissapointing. Since I get my veg delivered, I don't buy meat and a I rarely buy fish - and it isn't on my way home I can't say it's impending arrival in Stafford has any great bearing on my life.

It will be interesting to see if it does have any effect on the other 3 - but I suspect the arrival of the families at MOD Stafford will re balance things

I, for one, would buy zero things from Waitrose. I know what Waitrose is about and it is most certainly not about me.

When i was at 'uni' (poly) i had a rich friend who shopped exclusively for her food there - i would occasionally join her on her shop as a passive, envious, observer.

I won't go to Morrisons either, cause it's all the way over > there, whereas i am ^here.

I'll go to the fabled Aldi, if it appears chez Charles Clarke, to escape from the tyranny of the co-op but that is really about as far as i'm willing to go.

No-Match Stafford

A few posts under my belt
I keep hijacking this thread talking about other supermarkets :(

Just heard that Lidl possibly won't be extending now due to the road from Doxey being put in down the side of it and Tenpin.

Morrison's is already losing pots of money and closing stores, so why would they come to Stafford now, especially if they're not even based in Jersey?
