I used to work out of town, I took a job in town instead. Of course it narrowed my chances, it pays less for a start, but like I said that is a decision I made. I don't like commuting, and I sure don't want to spend 2 hours a day doing it anymore.
There are many, many people who do not drive, yet still manage easily enough. I know someone who works in Wolverhampton that uses the bus, I know lots of people who come to work via train. Cars aren't as essential as everyone makes out, you can live without them. They make things easier for sure, but things are rarely impossible without them. I am 36 this year and have never had a car, my partner is a year older and also never had one. Somehow we survive.
The more I think about it, the more I see people swapping towns for work. People coming to work in Stafford from Burton for example, while others are living in Stafford then travelling to Burton for work. Doesn't make sense, I'd move house or job. Its not so much about money as free time.
