As somebody mentioned the area is quieter since the pub was knocked down for those new houses. I would avoid the two newly completed ones directly by the roundabout as you might get car lights blazing through the windows during the night when turning off the main road. You occasionally get a Boulton HGV going past but on the plus side easy access to the M6 or in to the centre of Stafford via the A449 or A34. As I've only lived in the area a short while myself I can't really comment on the other locations, but there's no shortage of new house being built in and around Stafford.

If you were to characterise the nature of the building of new houses in the environs, it would be true to say, would it not, that we are being surrounded N, S, E & W by buildings being built.

But do you actually remember when all of this was fields?

I just about recall Wildwood being fields.I think.

I remember Wildwood and Hillcroft park being fields (with a couple of big old boarded up houses that we used to break in to explore....) Showing my age now ;)
Surprised me how fast people are moving into the already completed houses on the new estate being built on the Old Police Headquarters.

If I had £270k to spare,I'd buy one of these rather than the Silkmore ones.

I recall a derelict building to the right of Kwik Save (looking from the Cannock Road). I guess that's what was left of the complex.

Also a little mobile building sweet shop down that way too.

I can't help but think traffic flow into and out of the new houses might be an issue.

on Hillcroft Park, well I was born there so I guess they had houses by then. Oddly though they don't show on the 1970 (?) OS map. I guess they don't update everything each time. Island Green there - yes. But Mendip Avenue stops at the brow of the hill iirc.

Yes, derelict house by kwiksave location. Used to love exploring the servants quarters underneath and going up what was left of the grand staircase.
Also a house on Wildwood next to top of Radford bank. That featured in the papers as having witchcraft practised there. There were magic circle type drawings on the floor when we played in there. Always think of that seeing those new houses that were built on it ...

(Climax Blues Band used to practice in a community centre shed/hut like thing towards the right of Kwiksave as well a few years later)

Hillcroft park was still being built when Walton High School opened. Must have been 1967 when I was 11 and the first intake in Walton . Only our year and about 16 pupils in the year above and grew each year. Had to walk over a builders plank to get over a ditch into the side entrance off Selworthy drive.

Could have done with entrances for traffic on both Lichfield and Cannock Rds to share the traffic trying to get out of that new estate.

Last time I went by they had permanently closed the (old) "side gate" - as I knew it - that opened into Selworthy. Not sure how that works, when I was young (I'm about 10 years behind you) all the kids from Wildwood used to come that way up Bridle Road. Perhaps nobody walks to school anymore?

They closed it when son was there ( he's 23 now) but holes were just cut in the fence instead to get through.

On the subject of house buying and traffic..... Visit the areas you are thinking of buying in at about 3pm school days. A couple of my mates bought houses in Berkswich which was nice and quiet at the time of viewings. Since moving in have found their driveways blocked ( despite double yellow lines) and all roads around difficult to navigate with Walton & Berkswich 'school run ' traffic.

I once had to walk my pushbike through the cars abandoned all over Porlock Avenue - in the middle of it all was a bus - the driver had given up all hope and was reading the paper until an opening appeared...

Distinct memories of that bit in Seven (?) where they only get to view the flat at particular times, they move in, THEN they find out about the train.

We're moving house at the end of February and would like to have ADSL up and running before we actually move in but I'm not sure about how to go about this.

One of the ISPs I'm looking at (AAISP) doesn't do full phone line setup (only broadband-only) and so I guess I'd need to set up a line with BT first? Looking at BT's website, they do offer a moving house service but I'm guessing if I go that route the line will at best be up and running the day we move in and so I won't have time to get an ISP sorted as well. Does anybody have any advice?

Asking here because I'm sure if I phoned BT themselves I'd end up speaking to somebody in India who gives me the wrong information.

Took me too long to work out where that was. Don't know why the link road is called the A34 should really be the A513
