To anyone that ends up in this same situation with your pet...

When you take your pet (family member) to be put to sleep, this is what happens....

You and pet have a vet consultation, in Charlie's case it was decided that the best option was to be put to sleep. They ask if you would like to have the pet cremated, take them home, or leave them at the surgery. I chose to bring Charlie home.

Charlie went with the vet to have his paw shaved, & a (?) Cannula inserted into the vein.

Charlie came back to me in the vets room, I had the options of holding him in his carrier, but I chose to pick him up & cuddle him while the vet administered the drugs into the cannular...

The drugs are like a overdose of anaesthetic ...Charlie layed his head on me, did not seem to be in any pain. It was very quick, the pets eyes do not close. The vet then checks again for a heartbeat. We then wrapped him in his blankets for me to bring home.

All the ladies at vets 4 pets were amazing....I cried like a bawling child thorough the whole visit, & they were great.

I just hope this helps someone else who is faced with the same decision.
I believe this is accurate. I am never present. My wife and daughter have always been present at the end but its always been too much for me so I have always been the sobbing wreck in the waiting room. My wife has been the one to administer the good byes.
I am with Island vets who I love for their bedside manner but I needed to go to Vets 4 Pets for a assistance and they were the loveliest most helpful people I have ever come across in animal care.

Most of all Littleme, sorry for your loss, most people on here can understand.

We’ve been going through the wringer with Bloo lately due to kidney disease and all sorts, and I know we’re going to have to go through this at some point in the next couple of years (kinda hoping he passes in his sleep though tbh, it’ll be much more pleasant for him as he’s hardly a fan of the vets)

The V4P team have always been great, one vet handled all his kidney stuff so we now try to always book with her so she can keep tabs on him and everyone there adores him (even the nurse who’s arm he tried to deglove while coming out of sedation)

So sorry for your loss, it’s good to hear they handled it so nicely for you though

Ollie back from the vets, I'm now £750 lighter and we have no idea why he's ill still! TBF I'm still happy as we've ruled out a lot of potentials, and it could now just be a really unfortunate coincidence of two overlapping external factors. Currently sat on my feet with a big bald patch over his kidneys.

This is exactly what happened to Charlie...constant kidney/urine/water infections...it started with just a few times a year with him being poorly...but it just got so much worse with 3 illnesses within a few weeks...it wasn't fair for him to keep suffering & he wasn't ever going to get better. The husband hates me... But it was the right decision.

Just know that the end is very peacefull though,& I wish I'd managed to find info before it happened to us.

A terrible end to my day today in having to rush Charlie cat to the vets to be put to sleep, unexpectedly, things can change so quickly in the space of a few hours, I started the day with a fit healthy 6yr old cat, & ended the day holding him in my arms while he was put to sleep .
So sorry to hear, they break your heart. Thinking of you.

Thought as much, I know with kfc they add about 20% to everything then still charge a fee after.

I refuse to use any of those delivery firms anyway as their drivers always block all the click and collect spaces at maccies, so I don't like to encourage them!

We used to order KFC a lot through Uber Eats, and I mean A lot. If I get off my fat backside and drag my weary fat body and pained knees to the car, drive to said KFC and order over the counter, I save £10! It wasn't till we actually went and did this that we realised how much dosh we had wasted. It's east get the order page up and just click on a few things.

Dropped a parcel off at a UPS collection point, went something like:

Me: Can I drop this off please
Them: That's way too small, it'll get lost
Me: It's insured, if UPS lose it that's their problem
Them: I can't be held responsible
Me: As long as I have a receipt I don't care, its fine
Them: But they'll lose it, it's too small
Me: It's bigger than the postage label though, is there a minimum size?
Them: No but they'll lose it!
Me: That's fine, it's insured, do UPS lose lots of parcels then?
Them: Shakes head. Your choice but it'll get lost

Now thinking ill avoid UPS for important parcels! Got my receipt though so not my issue.

EDIT: Just checked, the parcel was 25x15cm but quite slim (few cms). I'm guessing she loses a lot of stuff.

Just talked to garmin (it's their parcel). Package size is fine, nothing to worry about, they can see it was dropped off so all sorted as far as my side is concerned.
