I looked at that 1892-1914 map, it's a very definite feature on that. Looks like a Giant left his coat hanger there ….

It seems a bit substantial and a little low for a water trough.

I've always believed that the initial salt extraction activities took place on the Common itself, rather than where the 'permanent' works were later established - it might be a relic of those activities?

There looks like a definite channel in that LIDAR map, perhaps connected to those old Marl Pits to the Northwest and North.

Looking at those side by side maps really is fascinating. For example, examining the area I was bought up … Sheridan Street near the Rec … the map OS six inch 1888-1913 shows no houses build to the Northeast of Corporation Street … (Sheridan St, Prospect Road, Douglas Road West etc didn't exist. Tithe Barn Road was Tithe Lane, Coton Farm is clearly visible. And yet, the Rec, is still marked as 'Recreation Ground.' Even though it's pretty much in the middle of nothing.

It's amazing the Rec has survived. There must be some history there …. :|

Actually got hoarder hubby to go through the over 40 + years of work contracts, pensions and other bumpf with me that he's been refusing to get rid of .
Now just got the stuff that matters ( as well as 45 years of old payslips which he still wants to hang onto ) and a few bits and pieces he's hanging onto " just in case".

Blue recycling bag bursting to the seams with it all , and I actually think he enjoyed his slinging session :D . Might not have converted him to become a super slinger like me, but getting him thinking in the right direction...

Went to look on the B& Q website. Message came up I'm in a queue to get onto it, as in these times they are limiting the number of people visiting the website ( and once I reach the front of the queue I'll have 10 minutes to get onto the site, then I've lost my place)

Over an hours wait to get onto the website ...If I leave the page I've lost my place :o

I can understand why there would need to be a queue at the point of he having to pay online, in order to manage the numbers of people needing to come to the store to collect and the number of staff in store to cope.

To have a queue just to browse the website is utterly unnecessary bollocks though.

ETA I've got a load of old payslips from 20+ years ago which I've always intended shredding. Not sure I'll bother now.

Had to drive to work this morning, for the first time since lockdown. Roads virtually deserted so it was a rather entertaining drive, if somewhat poignant.

On the way home I called in at Tesco in order to do some essential shopping. Car park maybe 1/4 full. Parked, like most people, nowhere near another car. Came out to find some tit had parked so close to my car I actually had to get in through the passenger side!

Finally , my patience paid off :yay:Got a new lawn mower on it's way (hopefully) for next week. Present one has decided to choose a very inconvenient time to start playing up and deciding when it fancies starting or not! More often not lately.

Interesting historical documents. I've got some 56 year old pay slips. £36 a month take home pay - and horrendous income tax levels.
I was on £8 a week top line when I started work. Kinda wish I had kept the old paper tape and punch cards that I kept for years and decided on one blitzing session to bin. Along with an MRI / Gec measurements PCB key ring which was made specially for me .

The Tooth Fairy kept all sons teeth stuck into his baby birth book...... that page had to go when he was looking through it one day years after and it freaked him out

I used to have the first computer game I ever wrote on paper tape*, from the summer of 1976. I might still have it somewhere in the loft.

* - I even tried reading it through the office telex machine once, but all that came out was gobbledygook.
