Muntjac barking?

I keep hearing a low pitched squawking noise in Highfield Grove area in the late evenings. It is the exact noise that a Muntjac makes.
Unless somebody is able to replicate that exact noise for that long without hawking a tuah and is screwing with me, I'd swear it is.
Of course I've asked on farcebook and been met with a lack of responses which will no doubt over time turn to mockery.
Is it really just me hearing this? I know it's nigh on impossible, it's all gardens there's no woodland, but I have no idea what else would make that noise

Now I feel right stupid
Someone I knew was frequently woken up around 6:30am by what he thought might be a pheasant.

He would perform an impression of whatever it was to anybody that would listen, in an effort to establish what it really was.

None of the other neighbours seemed to hear it, but Sandon Road gardens are about a hundred yards long in that area.

This went on for a couple of months, without anything definitive being established.

He rang up the Wildlife Trust and performed his impression over the phone, again without a definitive answer being forthcoming.

On several occasions, he got up early and went out into the garden, in an effort to actually record it. These efforts were always fruitless and he presumed that he was spooking whatever the perpetrator was. But, it would return the next morning, if he stayed in bed.

Eventually, it was established what was actually happening. Unbeknownst to him, his new watch featured an alarm that was supposed to be a cock crowing and it was set to go off daily. His efforts to record it were thwarted by the fact that it was crowing in the bedroom, whilst he was out squatting in the garden with his cassette recorder...

Obviously we have plenty of foxes in Stafford, but we do have a few Muntjac as well.

Muntjac have certainly been spotted on the north side of Stafford, including Creswell, Doxey Marshes and Eccleshall Road allotments. As they are also present on Cannock Chase, it is likely they are present on the south side of the town centre as well.

Don't feel stupid! At least you have some wildlife nearby.

We have a family of fox's visit us, very noisy during mating season, but recently they've started to make a 'chittering' noise at each other, they bark like that and scream too & the noise is horrible...

Noisiest animals in my garden are hedgehogs! How does something so small make noise like a fully grown pig!?

I live in Highfields Grove, near Rowley Park Academy, would love to think there Muntjac inhabited the area. I run and walk the dog regularly, and have done for over 20 years. Yet to see any evidence of their presence, Badgers, foxes domestic beasts of all sorts but other than those mentioned no other beasts. You hear some very strange sounds, but I won't attempt to guess at the possibility of the source of them! ;)

Not as long, but otherwise exactly the same.

We've heard some odd noises early mornings this week, decided it's ducks on helium.
There's a lot of crows where I am and they are generally vocal with similar accents, but one of them appears to be impersonating a gull.

The others pretend not to notice.
