I was horrified to discover a week ago that the County Council had sited about a dozen or so new grey street lamps in the town centre. There is one bang in the middle of the square, beside the Mr potato man, one outside the Rose and Crown and if you see one, you will spot all the rest.
My main problem with them is that they are ugly, uglier than the ornamental black numbers we have already. Does anyone have any info on this or feelings either way.
I remember seeing one of the ornate ones lying down last year outside Shippleys, maybe it was tired, but it looked as though it had actually fallen. I also recall a news article about the County Council banning the Borough from putting hanging baskets on the hanging basket brackets on the ornate ones, coz they would make it too heavy when they were watered.
I have just re-read this and wonder if I have an obsession about lamps, I must admit, I have a fair collection of torches too.
