New Birmingham to Manchester rail route

I'm ready to do my duty now having 'dodged' it twice

A three day double hander would be fine

Am I allowed to say it would be helpful to have a few hotties in the starting 11?

Pretty sure you're unlikely to be pressed into service to deliberate upon the happenings of 1843.

Twice? I have dodged it once - poor timing all round - but would also be bang up for it now. Though @citricsquid 's recent experience suggests it may be something of a let down.

Even more interesting to be given the responsibility to see someone swing - now we appear to be in the process of 'taking back control' by mob rule, perhaps this too will be back on the cards in the very near?

In 10 years...

Please check in to the station at least 30 minutes before departure

This Stafford railway station becoming a HS2 hub can't be the current station as its no-where near the HS2 route, or am I going crazy ?

Either the route is going to change or there will be a new Stafford station further north ???

Probably plan to redirect HS2 itself through the town centre ;)

No it looks like Stafford will be have a branch service that will link up to the HS2 line with trains that can run on both lines.

Stafford North to close!!!!!!!

The Department for Transport has begun the formal consultation procedure to close Norton Bridge station in Staffordshire.

The station has been served only by a replacement bus service since 2004, when the platforms were taken out of use to facilitate the West Coast route modernisation. DfT believes the new West Midlands rail franchise provides an opportunity to decide as to the station’s future, and is proposing the replacement bus be withdrawn and the station formally closes either when the franchises begins in October 2017 or at the timetable change in December of that year.
DfT says a formal assessment has shown that constructing a new station would likely cost £18 million and could only be served by a very limited train service, as the disused platforms are on the fast lines of the West Coast main line. It has also concluded that this move would generate very few new rail journeys and would have a negative net present value of £19.7 million. In contrast, the withdrawal of the current £40,000 per year subsidy provided for the replacement bus would yield a positive net present value of £0.9 million over a 60-year appraisal period. The bus is part-funded by Staffordshire County Council, which would review its provision if the DfT funding were withdrawn.
The station’s closure would need to be ratified by the Office of Rail and Road following the formal consultation, which runs until 3 February 2017.

How many people (who don't have cars to enable them to get to either Stafford or Stone) actually use it?

Surely that is a more pertinent issue than the fact that it might save £0.9m over sixty years.

Hardly anybody used it after it ceased to be a real station. Almost the first work that was done was to remove the old footbridge, which, whilst it could have remained in use, couldn't be replaced without being a new structure to a more modern standard, I suspect. Quite a few people weren't even aware that it was theoretically possible to use it as part of a 'rail' journey.

There will always be pressure to remove any small stations on main lines for the benefit of the overall figures.

I knew someone in Eccleshall who used it daily to commute to Crewe, after the change in service provision, he drove all the way instead.
