Newport Road Roadworks

Saw the other day that Severn Trent Water are soon to be working on the Newport Road in the Castlefields-Rowley Avenue region with temporary traffic lights.
18th January - 12th March
See http://www.stwater.co.uk/server.php?show=ConWebDoc.3829

It's just a shame we don't have a bypass... somewhere between Castlefields and the Doxey Road would be ideal during these roadworks! :)

That road needs resurfacing too, will the council use some common sense and do the two hobs at the same time? Don't be flipping silly.

They've been promising a resurface for the past five or six years, saying they will resurface at the same time as other roadworks. Maybe this time they will do it? I live in hope...

The rebuilding of Sandon Road in the second half of last year led to a final product about as good as it would be possible to do. And nobody has dug it up since. Yet.

It can be done.

These roadworks will mean another set of lights on the journey from Castlefields roundabout to Redhill/Audi garage.
With temporary set included, the 2.5 mile journey will take in 15 sets of traffic lights, with 17 sets on the return journey. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE??? I know its been said in other threads, but Stafford does not need any more traffic lights. END OF. The more time spent sitting at a red light means the more time you are on the roads before getting to your destination, therefore increasing the number of cars on the roads at a time. It's no wonder Stafford gets jammed up at rush hour [edit: and every other hour] - everyone is about 2 miles from home but keeps getting stopped for two minutes at every set of lights, which adds up to a huge time!!! Madness!!!

*Sorry, rant over*

That's counting pedestrian crossings though isn't it? And you'll never stop at all 15 in one journey.

It isn't lights jamming up Stafford - and compared to lots of places traffic jams in Stafford aren't really that bad - its the number of people driving!! Generally the increased traffic comes before the installation of lights, rather than the other way round....!

everyone is about 2 miles from home
Indeed... so there's a lot more people driving than need be!

Well, the roadworks were supposed to start yesterday, but at 17:30 today there was still nothing there. Apparently the council were filling potholes Monday morning though.

Anyone know anything?

For anyone who didn't find out yesterday, the roadworks have finally started and the traffic lights are now set up. To avoid blocking up the town centre they were keeping the lights on green going out of town in the afternoon, so it was taking over 20 minutes to get from beyond West Way to Vets4Pets (where the traffic lights are).

You have been warned!

Afternoon all.

I know its not good form for your first post on a forum to be a moan but.... I wish to complain.

May I request that car drivers do not think that just because there are cars on the roadabout heading into town, that a fat old bloke on a bike (me) won't be on the roundabout turning right from Kingsway onto the Newport Road in order to head out of town. Twice yesterday car drivers have not even looked to their right when pulling onto the roundabout; the second only missing me by feet as I took avoiding action.

I know you will be very happy to get past the lights which seem a bit of a pain, but think of all the paperwork if you don't look and hit me.

Many thanks. (I won't post a moan next time...honest)

As an aside (related) anyone driving down the Newport Road towards Tesco may have noticed a humungus jolt of their car as they pass the bus stop just before the Brunswick Terrace turning... the pot hole there is gigantic and I have driven down the thing twice now...

I have just reported it to the council and hope they will fix it soon as damage is likely if it stays there.

My old mate Gilbert informs me that Castlefielders who are heading towards town are making a crafty detour around by the rugby club seems that it's a legal right-of-way.....

It's fine until you get broken glass in your tyres!

Or if lots of people decide to do the same you will eventually meet someone coming the other way and have to reverse all the way back out again!
