Nice areas of Stafford for a move?

Eccleshall is nice, decent pubs and eateries, but you don't get much bang for your buck.
Woodseaves housing is reasonably priced with good access to countryside, M6 J14 is only 6 miles away, only one pub, but it's a decent one.
Wouldn't go to Doxey. Baswich area etc much nicer and, as previously mentioned, good access to Cannock Chase etc

This is all fabulous intel thanks so much! We are at the c300k point and would be happy to find somewhere (pref) detached that was within walking distance of the town. Looking at something in western downs this weekend and having a general mooch about so hoping we will understand what’s what a bit more

We live a live a mile or so away from the town center and love being able to walk into town if we need to, and not have to worry about parking / cars etc. Stafford isn't huge and all of it has easy access to outdoor spaces. None of Stafford is terrible, and some bits of it are very nice indeed so again your budget will dictate where you're looking at.

I think the biggest question is what do you want to do with your free time and how much you to use the car for it.

If you're looking at getting to Nottingham with any regularity you'd benefit from looking at houses closest to the road to the Uttoexter / Derby A50 route

😂😂😂thanks fr the heads up
Said in jest but worth bearing in mind, the M6 regularly closes between 13 and 14 and town becomes gridlocked. If you regularly need to travel anywhere aim to live that side of town or accept delays

Ok so silkmore lane thoughts everyone? 🤓🧐
Top end of Silkmore lane by A34 seems OK.
( The older houses on main road , as well as York Rd, Lancaster Rd etc area. Plus the newer estate across the road , Tarragona Drive area.)

The Meadows estate across the other side of A34 island from Silkmore lane is known for flooding.

Co-op area on Silkmore lane well known for floods, along with the newer houses next to & opposite it .
Being Stafford born & bred for 66 years, I'd personally not buy between the Co-op to A449 Wolverhampton Rd .....

Hello again everyone. We’ve done lots of viewings and agree with most people on here that Baswich is the way forward! We are planning on looking at a house tomorrow that is a couple of streets away from the Trainline in that area - anyone near there for a view on how much of a pain the trains are in that area?

Depending where you are looking at Baswich the line goes through a cutting on the eastern side of Baswich lane so that should muffle some of the noise.

I once lived off St Leonard's Avenue which is a comparable distance at a guess and train noise wasn't an issue there.

A similar consideration to take into account in choosing a location in Stafford is the noise of the M6 which is more constant than train noise.

I guess people get used to ambient noise after a while so unless you're a particularly light sleeper I wouldn't worry too much about the train noise to be honest.

I lived on Porlock Avenue for four years in the 70s and don't remember ever hearing a train.

The motorway and general road traffic noise is the main ambient external input, I find.

Baswich does have a plausible pub/café now, on Bodmin Avenue. In my day there was the Crossbow, which was not for the likes of me...

If I was subject to a court injunction requiring me to live within Stafford, but in an area of my choosing, then that corner would do - Baswich, Walton, Hillcroft Park.

The soil in the gardens is not always great, it can be very gravelly.

Traffic into/out of town at 'rush' hours can be a bit of a chore. No worse than the rest of Stafford, outside those times.

Someone I know who had a house near the railway had a bizarre 'postcode issue' with his insurance over an alleged flood risk, despite there being no chance of the house itself being at any risk whatsoever., this side of the end of the world.

For that reason I don't understand anyone living in Acton Trussell.
Train noise doesn't concern me although it might if I was much nearer to the railway line.

Hope your viewing goes well tomorrow. Can't say we heard the trains much when we lived nearer the train side of Baswich Crest. Used to be just fields between us and the train line in those days. I used to walk around Baswich by the areas near the train lines until we moved from Stafford 2 years ago and the trains going past weren't that noticable .

I've lived 60 years in Baswich , Weeping Cross and Wildwood and apart from the traffic in peak times to get into town being a pain in the @rse it's a nice part of Stafford to live . Cannock Chase within walking distance , a nice walk along the canal on your doorstep , 3 shopping centres, 3 decent-ish pubs........

I lived on Wildwood for thirteen years but don't think it's what it was through the 1980s.
I'm a twenty minute bus journey from Cannock Chase and had a lovely walk there yesterday from Milford across to near Pottal Pool for the bus back to Stafford.
