No audio on windows 7

I have just installed windows 7 onto my laptop and all is groovy execpt i now have no sound. When something is playing i can see the graphic equalisers bouncing about but no noise out the speakers. Also if i put my pointer over the speaker icon in the whatsit bar it says no audio output device enabled. As you can guess i'm not a techy fellow. I am however a very baffled chappy. Please help me.

I know nothing, but try right-clicking on the speaker icon in the whatsit bar and then see if you can then turn something on in the box-thing that might appear as a result..
