Nonsense posts

Hi All. :)

I have had a number of different users approach me recently, saying they are put off posting because of the likelihood of their threads descending into unrelated nonsense and off-topic word association. For this reason, I am going to start being a lot more strict with such posts and will delete them if I think things are getting too out of hand! You have probably noticed a few threads being pruned already. ;)

Thanks.

Mallett's Mallet is a word association game, where you musn't pause, hesitate, repeat a word, or say a word I don't like...

otherwise you get a bash on the head like this...

or like this...

the one with the most bruises loses....

look at each other and go Bleugh!

Look at everyone at home and go Bleugh!

Everyone at home look at them and go Bleugh!

... couldn't resist...

how about starting a word game thread that can be closed and deleted periodically so that the bandwidth usage doesnt get out of hand?

then those that want to play the game can, without it impinging on the other threads?

Bandwidth isn't an issue, I have absolutely no issue at all with anyone starting a word game thread if they want to! I have just been contacted by quite a few users recently who were fed up with almost every single thread round here descending into nonsensical, unrelated word ping-pong.

Admin, I wasn't one of the people that contacted you because I thought it was just me that got really annoyed about it, but now I know its not then thanks for stepping in.

Without naming names, I often read posts and think WTF has that got to do with the OP?

Glad this can be sorted :)

Well, exactly. I have had 5 different users bring it up with me recently, and I thought for every 1 user who did say something there was probably another 10 who quietly felt the same way, so clearly something had to be done.

Thanks for understanding. :)

This was not in response to the behaviour of any one single person, so I hope no-one takes it personally! It was just as a result of the general direction of The Forum of late, and people expressing their desire for order to be restored. :)

I never mentioned anything either, I thought it was just me and I was missing something.

......obviously not! :)

how will we know what qualifies as nonsense? are you going to install a Nonsens-O-Meter which measures each post against a list of criteria and gives us a Nonsense Factor, so we can avoid falling foul of The Almighty Banhammer Of Justice?

Good shout Mr Admin like some on here i'm up for a laugh just as much as the next man or woman even. Sexism should play no part when we are having a mass debate on world issues and the like. I often chip in with a quip on the lighter side and as some know i struggle with providing links and all that cyber mularkey however if we all met up who's to say that the banter would be any different?........

I have to agree here with the admin. I often read through threads on here and find them hijacked by posts from the regulars that make absolutely no sense to me and are not in the context of the original thread. It can be very off putting to newcomers and less frequent visitors as it can come across as patronising and seem like the OP is being mocked in some way. Not everyone spells things perfectly, or is a grammar expert. I don't think this should prevent them from partaking in threads, but some of the comments can be very cutting.

Admin edit: Moved post to more appropriate thread.

I don't want to be a hard-on about this but you did exactly this when commenting on what was a post flagging up an event by questioning whether immigrants should jump the housing queue.

This was then dredged up almost two weeks after the event had ended to make the same point and more.

And yes, perhaps i should have let it lie but there you are.
