Sadly a life lost . Someone was called out for urineating in publicy. Bizzarly the SOC was hosed down within 30 mins of the knife attack......I remember the public loos behind there as well.
Brings back memories of one night in the Grapes , someone coming running in saying a man had been stabbed on the Wimpy patio for confronting someone for swearing in front of his girlfriend. (Attacker called Wolfy if I remember correctly) ) . A rare occurance to hear of stabbings in those days .

Bouncy floor.Remember the Students Union bar in Tipping Street as well . Enjoyed a few good nights in there !
Cured a few hangovers in there on a Saturday morning. Lived in Rugeley at the time but occasionally ended up overnighting in Stafford.Been racking my brains all night trying to remember the name of the cafe I used to go where the bikers hung out on the corner of Tipping street/Eastgate street , opposite corner to the Shrewsbury Arms. Was it 'Ma .... ' something ?
I remember he died. A rare occurance in those days. Someone ran over to the Grapes shouting to ring 999Didnt he die. Think it was a man Mccann who stabbed him
That used to be my 'local'. Remember once night a fight started when the coaches came down to Top of The World (not hubbys , although I did meet him in there ages after when the West Brom coaches came ) . Our table went up in the air so me and my mates just grabbed our drinks and sat there with a ring-side seatI believe that people often used to run out of the Grapes shouting dial 999.
Sprung if I remember correctly.Bouncy floor.
Knackered joists I thought.Sprung if I remember correctly.
I'm always amazed how no-one ever ended up falling over the balcony. One most embarrassing memory was me & hubby waking up in there with all the lights on and the staff waking us as they were clearing up......we'd both dozed off and my brother thought it was hilarious leaving us thereTop of The World, memories. Cheesey looking back but, memories.
