Coming out of work at lunchtime, a guy was shouting across the town to his mates that he had just been sacked because he had lied on his CRB check!!! He seemed to think it was really funny and it didnt seem to bother him one bit!

What a total idiot, oh well his loss, lets hope the company he worked for employ someone who will be proud to have a job, instead of proud to lose it!

Moan over lol

I thought the point of a CRB check was to sort out the liers?
Takes ages to come through through, especially enhanced disclosure. Normally people don't lie and it's a formality. In this case it worked exactly as intended, except that he had started work already, potentially dangerous if he was working with vulnerable people. But as I said, it's normally just a formality so employers say come on in.

Doesn't detract from the point he's a twonk and by the sounds of it a bit of a looser.

More to the point a CRB check is carried out independently of the applicant with no input from them.

You cannot lie on your CRB check - though you could lie that you had no criminal record and be subsequently found out, which presumably happened here.

Either way, the guy does sound a bit of a knob.

A CRB check only has value for a single day so amost useless
This was summed up by ABBA with a little ditty entitled " The Day Before You Came" .........

Is it possible to CRB yourself if you want to see what others see? I may have a criminal record if it wasn't removed properly as promised. Knowing the Army's legal system I'm guessing its got some shadow if I check.
If anyone can clue me in I would be grateful.

No.

You could either apply for a job that requires CRB disclosure, or offer to do voluntary work that requires the same, and see what happens.

If the latter, it would be rather poor form to not take them up on it if you are successful - CRB checks do cost the employer/voluntary organisation so it wouldn't do to be a dick about it.

You can apply to see if staffordshire police have anything on the PNC about you, but this isn't the same as getting a CRB check.

A CRB check is to ensure that you are suitable to work with children or vulnerable adults. Even if you have a criminal record depending on the offence it may not affect the outcome of the CRB.

Under the rehabilitation of offenders act there are some convictions that become spent after a period of time. So when you are asked if you have any convictions you need not declare them if spent.

You cannot get a CRB check done on yourself.

There are issues with CRB checks and convictions.

I believe there are a large number of people suing the CRB check people because of incorrect information. Also police forces were not very good a recording convictions. I guess they had a big splurge to put manual records on a database in the late 80's or early 90's.

My work dictates that I have to have a CRB check every two years, it's only about £25.00 so not a great imposition for an employer to have one done say every 12 months if they think a position warrants it.

But of course you are free to commit crimes between checks and whilst the checks are carried out and whilst your court case is pending, thus rendering the check valid for the day it was carried out only

Most are tedious box ticking excercises and forced on people who are never actually alone with children or vulnerable adults

But it placates the Daily Mail and brings in cashmoney so its used extensively as a badge
