By new b and q on Lichfield road. Traffic lights are really slow and people are always taking a chance...

One of the dodgier places to attempt a crossing in Stafford - and you did comment on the last collision there, also.

It's really bad, I think that's the third person knocked over in the last twelve months along that stretch, plus yes, couple of crashes aswell....

Having motor traffic sweeping left across a cycle lane just after leaving the traffic lights can be an additional cause of excitement.

Just come from town.

Lichfield Road closed from St. Leonards to Malt & Hops Island. Traffic being diverted around by Franky & Bennys going into town and access to Lichfield Rd being blocked off by The Island in town.

Radio Stoke says going to be closed most of the morning.

Big jams down Lammascote Road and Weston Road and Tixall Road heading into Stafford just as I drove back that way.

Yesterday I was driving there, towards Lloyds Bank junction , and someone stepped straight off the pavement in front of me without any warning that he was even contemplating crossing over. Luckily I had my wits about me and stopped just in time!

All open again now. Don't know much as I was out at work, all I've heard so far is the air ambulance landed on the cricket club.

I hope he's ok!

Any idea what happened? Did the driver run a red, or was it the pedestrian?

Also, I saw an old biddy nearly get run over in Eccleshall yesterday, just walked out in front of a car. Fortunately the driver was awake and was also travelling at a slow speed so stopped in time - no one was hurt. Pool old lady probably couldn't see/hear him coming.

I must have just gone past a few minutes before.

Must admit , after someone stepping out in front of me yesterday close to there without any warning, I was very wary this morning. I was watching the people waiting to cross the road and getting ready to slam my brakes on. A few people were looking impatient with waiting for the lights to change and looking as though they were waiting for a gap in the traffic to dash across.

Just hope the poor bloke who was knocked over today makes a good recovery and is OK!

Some absolute tool ran a red light last night where the road past Asda meets the Kwik Fit roundabout.... good job myself and the bus next to me saw the idiot coming or else my wife or people on the bus would be in intensive care by now... he was going well over 30 and ironically had to stop on the roundabout for the next set of lights anyway...

I was a bit late this morning so must've also misssed it by minutes, if not seconds. I also have been very wary at those crossings lately and have held back and looked a few vehicles in front for what colour the lights are and who's waiting to cross. It's a box junction but that means a pretty pattern to some people and nothing else!

Statement received earlier by email -
Officers from Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian sustained serious injuries in a collision on Lichfield Road in Stafford.

It happened at approximately 8.30 this morning (Tuesday 29 November) at the traffic lights near Hough Retail Park and involved a red Rover 25, which was travelling out of Stafford.

The pedestrian, an 82-year-old local man, was flown by air ambulance to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with serious injuries.

The road remained closed until just after 10am while emergency services dealt with the incident and officers completed an examination of the scene.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the officer in the case, Sgt Jonathan King, on 101 quoting incident number 111 of 29 November.

Over the years I have noticed that residents in Stafford often cross roads when the ( Pelican ) crossing is on red for padestrains.

I've noticed its generally the one outside of the train station and Sainsburys.

Sainsbury, people crossing tend to run from the side to try and get over.
