I think I was taken here as a small child to watch 'Bambi', I started crying at the part where Bambis mother dies, & I didn't stop for about 3 days.
Same with Watership Down.....but I probably cried for 3 weeks after watching that! (& I was terrified of rabbits from then on) #evilredeyes #traumatizedchild

I think Kes was the best film I saw at the Picture House

The Language of Love the best at The Odeon ( included Jilling )

don't mention the blinds
I recall watching Seven Brides for Seven Brothers when it was first released, the audience was different in those days ie we'd cheer and clap and even singalong at times. Crazy days, Crazy ways....

'The Devil Rides Out' was the scariest film I saw there. Seen edited versions on telly since and not half as good with some of the scariest scenes missing.

I went to an American Cinema in Germany to watch Star Wars (as you do).....the Americans were just like that....cheering, clapping, shouting back at characters.....it was half endearing & half annoying as you could hardly hear what was going on! Great atmosphere though.

First time in the Odeon, on a school trip,, was to see the climbing of Everest shortly after it was done and the queens coronation, and of course the morning Saturday club, Flash Gordon cliff hangers, Superman, Roy Rodgers etc.
The Picture house was cheaper and a regular haunt for the horror films after the Sandonia closed, we queued up in the alley at the left hand side that always smelt of wee except for the times it smelt of carbolic.
I can still remenber seeing the ice cream girls legs for the first time, they always wore short skirted uniforms in green and white.

Hello Stafford Forums

Myself and some of the Team at The Picture House will be putting on a celebration on the 23rd of February next year to celebrate 100years of the building.

We are looking for people with memories of it as a cinema who would be happy to come and talk on camera for a special documentary film being made to be aired inside the picture house and online.

We would also love any pictures/video material anyone has from across the years. Even when it was an early wetherspoons in the mid 90s.

If you dont want too appear on camera and just want to submit your memories please post below of send me a PM

A rundown of the basic history:
- Opened as the Picture House in 1914 showing The House Of Temperley
- Ran as a cinema all the way up until the 30th march 1995
- Opened as a wetherspoons in 1997 as it is today

Hi

My late uncle was the projectionist for many many years at the odeon before moving to the picture house when it became a cinema, he made a video regarding it's history quite some years ago, my dad has the videos but they are currently on VHS, I think it includes some pictures of how it was I've not viewed them for a long time though
