Looking at the screenshots it uses the half life engine so it will do doubt feel like ever other valve game - which isn't a bad thing, it's a good engine but after 13 years it's getting a bit samey now. Left for dead / half life / team fortress / countrstrike - may as well be the same game IMO :(

EDIT: Not done any 3d gaming on my mac since I got it in september - will have to see how well it does.

Could say the same about most FPS games really? Although I also never play games now, apart from the quicker simpler ones like WOG. Did buy the Civ IV collection last week though, may have to actually load it!

IMHO one of the best games EVAR! Was originally in the Orange Box and was the best game in it - even better than TF2, which is no small feat.

Yeh it's the same engine as the other games and controls feel the same as HL2, but that's pretty much where the similarities end. Can't recommend this game enough!

i don't think it's an FPS though really, more a puzzle game.. looks like you only have the one "weapon", which you use to open a portal.. the trailers look mental, i love the bit where he opens a portal round a corner, so he can see himself going into the portal as he comes out, in an endless loop lol..

this strikes me as the sort of game the would be brilliant on the wii, shame they didn't release it on that!

high praise! i'm defo gonna have a look at this later.. it's just my kinda game - i'm not a big fan of balls-out high-octane FPSes and the like, but zany puzzle games are right up my street :)

Portal does indeed rock, the unlicensed moose was in hysterics watching me try to figure it out (whilst admittedly slightly innebriated).

Essentially you have an entrance portal and an exit portal (IIRC), which you fire (throw?) at walls. Using these portals, you have to navigate from one point to another. Sounds easy, but its rather tricksy!

No that's the gameplay - I'm talking about the feel of it, there are huge differences in the way the unreal and half life engines feel IMO, same for quake etc.

Its how the models are rendered, textures, smoke etc. effects, movement, clipping - the valve (half life) engine has a very unique feel. When you load up something like team fortress or counterstrike you just know its based on half life. It's hard to explain really.

Yeah saw this and thought maybe not, but after these reviews I will download it when I get in tonight!

I'm not much of a gamer TBH, but last night I lost 4 hours to World Of Goo so I may be turning to the darkside.
I also registered a battle.net account in the hopes of getting on the starcraft 2 beta. I downloaded and am playing starcraft again too.

Wait maybe I am a gamer! Yes I am a Gamer! There I feel better.

Yep it would be ideal for the Wii - would be brilliant for post-pub gaming.

It starts off fairly easy, but some of the levels are absolute b*stards. Make sure you have the volume up too, as some bits are damn funny (especially the end boss "fight")

Think I can vaguely remember you having a drunken go at it tek and embarrassing yourself oh so slightly :P

Goo is only 60mb-ish, chuck the indy lads some dollar and you could be playing that in 5 mins.

World of Goo has the official MyCult seal of approval

Got to agree it's a brilliant game, the only thing I can fault it for is being to short. Oh and making you hungry for cake.
