Posthouse Beware

Just to let everybody know despite booking at the above 10 days in advance and receiving confirmation of the same for dinner last Saturday at 1915hrs.They rang at 1800hours cancelling the reservation without recompense. It was a Birthday meal and such was the late cancellation it left us with nowhere to go.
Just wanted to let everybody know so they do not get caught as we did.:ohno:

No reason for cancelling? Seems a bit odd, even if they were up **** creek you think they'd make up a reason!

Oh lets brag on tw@tter how well we are doing tonight with our big mass booking.

No mention on Tw@tter of the poor customer whos birthday we have just ruined. Maybe he should change his birthday to fit round them - It would be better suited to them in January when the dining room has tumbleweed blowing across it.

This is a very poor show on the face of it. Shame TPH aren't on here very often to sort this out but at least this kind of behaviour is reported back on here.

That is disgraceful. Shabbier than Baldrick.

You can understand why they might not want to turn down a party booking but I'm guessing that party booking did not come in at 6pm that evening. If, for some reason, it did, then the venue has no choice. It is simply too late to ruin the evening for people who have pre-booked.

The first time we visited what became our favourite place to stay, in Ireland, they had a wedding booking come in for the first night of our stay. They contacted us and asked, before accepting the wedding booking, whether we would mind staying in a nearby hotel that night. They booked us in, ensured we got an amazing room and paid for dinner in the restaurant. When we checked in the following day, there were some beautiful ' thank-you' flowers in our room.

We've been back to that hotel numerous times since. If they had simply told us on arrival that they were cancelling our booking, then gloated on Twitter about a lovely big wedding, I can't imagine we'd have gone near the place again.

It's all about giving a damn.

Enjoying a drop of red.
If that's the way they want to behave then sod 'em. See how well they do the rest of the year when party bookings are scarce.

That is what I call good service. The thing is, if the place was booked out they are making a fair bit of profit from it. Spending a small amount of that profit to keep current customers happy would have been a wise move, as was done in your case. Instead they get bad PR which is likely to cost them thousands in incidental losses in the long run, whereas if they'd contacted another restaurant to see if they could accommodate and chucked in a few bottles of vino then the issue would quickly be forgotten and the good will remembered.

Well, I say that, I'd still be very annoyed if I got my booking gazumped which is what this is. Someone offered more, so you are out on your ear.

Taken at face value, as we don't have the 'other side', the Post House's behaviour seems to be a clear breach of contract, without any extenuating circumstances.

I have booked a single room at nine top hotels next year

Robbie Williams is forty next year

Has to pay off

But then I have a collection of Betamax videos

Only 40? He looked a lot older than that when he was on the Royal Variety show last night - not ageing well at all!

Perhaps the Newsletter might be interested in this?

The last minute birthday cancellation, not Robbie being 40.

They'd probably want more to go on than a single post on a forum, and as Ossie is yet to return that could be a problem!
