Sorry probably a bit late to reply now, but for future reference the Hand & Cleaver in Ranton nr Haughton has wifi (maybe a bit far out though) been going in there for a coffee and to use the free wifi every so often to do some Uni work.

Our wifi hasnt been sorted in our new house yet so its been a bit of a life saver. And even though its a bit of a drive out its better for me than some of the pubs in town as its great for peace and quiet, even when its busy there's always a quiet little corner for me to sit in :)

Food there is really good too, would recommend. Unfortunately work has booked our Christmas meal in town, was a bit gutted we're not going to the Hand, but people want to go on a pub crawl afterwards...lol!

I think as I go around the pubs over the weekend I'll see which has wifi.

I guess there may not be the call for it?

The Pie & Ale House has M&B Wifi, and so does Coach & Horses I think. It even reaches across the road at the Stafford Balti. You have to register for it though I think, which is common among all "free" wifi hotspots.

I know this is ages old but in addition to the others mentioned here, both wetherspoons have free (patchy) wifi (where you need to register for the cloud service), and The Vine has good wifi that doesn't require registering.

I've had this same problem myself so wandered around doing a scan.

The Cloud really has gone patchy recently; unfortunately Nero recently migrated from BT OpenZone to The Cloud and WiFi just hasn't been the same since there.

Swan has free wifi you don't have to register, alternatively sit on the street furniture between us and No.15 and you can still benefit from our wifi signal on a sunny day, it does work on a rainy day, but you might get a bit wet!

My stepdaughter happily surfed on her laptop while six of us were being ignored in the Post House. Being one of life's sunny-tempered people, she pointed out that it would be a great place for her, as an impoverished student, to use as an alternative to the public library when she wanted somewhere quiet to sit and study without buying anything. Given the difficulty we were having spending any money there when we actually wanted to do so, she was probably right. Personally, I find it hard to look on the bright side when I am hungry and w-fi wasn't going to make up for me missing my lunch.

Could you put your wifi router on a tin tray and maybe more people can use it?

I'm glad more establishments are offering free wifi. What really narks me is that some expensive hotels actually charge for it £ 5 an hour?
