Has anyone else noticed more and more people are driving through lights when they are on Red.. I see it more and more in Stafford. It drives me mad. Sorry for the pun.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
Stopping at red lights appear to be optional for a lot of people now.

Yep, there are more and more red light runners out there these days - I used to mention them in the Poor Driving thread, but there were so many I gave up...

I see at least half a dozen each day when I'm walking to and from work, and when I was out in the works van the other day the car in front of me just plain ignored the red lights at the crossing on Tenterbanks by the college and drove straight through, even though they'd been red for so long the pedestrian was already halfway across the road...

I used to think it was the boy racers that jumped red lights, however it seems that all members of society are now doing it.

Yesterday, I observed a driving instructor drive through a red light.

Jumping a red light rarely gets you much further down the road and its dangerous.

It NEVER gets you in trouble in Stafford though hence it's invasive nature to almost all road users now. Put camera's on them, the traffic lights, like the ones on the Birmingham New Road, transgress by even a few inches and it's 3 points on your licence :). Problem solved and safer roads for all. This should also include pedestrian crossings; twice recently some old git has nearly mown me down as they've driven straight through the crossing when it was on red simply because they didn't see either the red light or me!!

I spotted one today, it's odd how some drivers view danger. The driver I saw this morning I had followed from Derrington. They had come up behind a quad bike earlier travelling at 25 mph and although it signalling left and moved into the kerb the driver refused to overtake, there was no oncoming traffic. Yet they were happy to run a red 2 minuets latter ? You would have to say part of the problem is Stafford's well planed road network which appears to want you slowed down or stopped at every opportunity but there is no excuse for blatantly running a red. Maybe fitting time clock displays on lights showing when they are about to change, to red or green, would help ?

I've noticed it too. They even go through red on a crossing outside a school. It drives me mad too! When you bring it to their attention you just get abuse. Yes you, the young lady in the Silver Peugeot!

Not read it my self but was told Stafford had an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the most traffic lights in a town
Can any body verify that

I was sat at the lights on red along Queensway opposite cafe Nero heading towards sandon rd woman cuts in from left of me indicates right only park on the crossing so she could get into the sandon rd lane once there sat checking her hair and make up in the mirror before speeding off as the lights changed.... Unbelievable!

I saw a real beauty there today - a car had stopped about where the red car is here, I think because the passenger had seen the red light that was for the other direction. Panic ensued and everybody was blocked in every direction - even when the lights changed there was still the red for the first direction showing - it was a while before they had the nerve to drive on, with people zooming past on all sides...

Best place see that is the turning to Crooked Bridge rd from Corporation St. Or, into Prospect rd. Many a numpty has stopped at the red light after taking the turning.

Whilst we can all criticise people for being confused by our lights, we have had years of practice - imagine stumbling into this maze without any adequate preparation..

Enjoying a drop of red.

Stafford really isn't that bad compared to the likes of Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Birmingham, London, Paris, Turin etc. etc.

Frankly if people can't adequately cope cope with our traffic lights, road-signage and lanes in Stafford, then they have no business being on the roads in the first place.
