Speaking of the GEC / Alstom, I noticed the old high voltage testing factory has been put up for sale.

In recent years the extended shed bits on the way to Sainsbury's have been demolished, I wonder if the whole site will have the same fate ? Can't see anyone realistically taking the factory on, can't have aged well inside ?

In a 175-page report, Markopolos accused GE of hiding $38.1 billion in potential losses and asserted that the company’s cash situation was far worse than it had disclosed.

The report is basically a pack of lies designed to manipulate the stock price for the hedge fund that paid for the report.

Hi, I worked at st Leonards works from 1989 to 2000. Started as a Development Engineer and ended up as a Certification Engineer.
I did enjoy my time I spent there, and would like to keep in contact with my colleagues and friends.
There was a mass redundancy, and I lost my Engineering development career.
No local work, so I moved to London and found odd jobs here and there. Now i am doing well.
I was shocked to read that the works is being knocked down for a housing development......
I wonder how my friends and colleagues are?

Take care till next time.

My old desk is now in the middle of the road. Keep meaning to get a photo of the place from my old vantage point.

There is a Facebook page, but you have to join to see anything.

If that link fails, then PM me through here and we'll sort it out.

I left in 1996 when I had my son ( well , last working day 1995 when boss refused a pass out for hospital scan. Resulting being signed off sick until emd of pregnancy. ) I then worked doing the same job from home for them as self employed for a few years on a dial up Internet ' thingy' to their computers then it cut me off & rang me back to connect at their cost , until new security measures prevented it.
Some of my mates there volunteered for redundancy each round but didn't get it. Whereas others who didn't volunteer were finished off.
Big shock when it all went and demolished and all my mates remaining lost their jobs.

I remember the 'It's a knockout' days when everyone was expected to join in that weekend. (that must have been pre-1979 when I met hubby , so before your time @Engineer )Not enjoyable at all for me being made to stand on a plank over an inflatable swimming pool, trying to stop balls being launched full whack past me. I fell in and ignored the shouts of ' stay there & stop them!' as I was spluttering away trying not to drown. Must have been fun for some though.

The French put a stop to any social activities.
and they closed the works shop down.. ' work is for work' was a quote from one of them as they sauntered around.

It was hard to believe the last time I drove past the factory and the overflow carpark was closed off , and main one half empty.

Then next time I went past it was all gone.

If you look on Drone Hub there's a shot from this week and it shows how big and how close to the extremities the houses will be.
This post has been shared across a few public groups. On one post there's seemingly a younger possible new occupant lecturing a former employee on how all the boxes have been ticked and the site is compliant and safe and flood free.
I'm guessing increases in downpours, more displacement and sheer force might teach her different, over time.
I'll guess nobody on here has bought on there, yet?

They're no doubt built higher up so they'll be fine, but the houses around them where the water is displaced to won't be.
