The speed limit is a limit not a target

Get up earlier

It's not about getting up earlier, driving at less than half the speed limit on a major A road in good driving conditions is not appropriate driving, it's a complete lack or respect for all other road users, if you are not confident enough to drive at say 50 in a 60 you ought to have a bit of respect and pull over rather than expecting everyone else to have to adhere to your driving choices.

I agree with this 100%. I was accused of being an aggressive driver on here when I complained about someone doing 35 all the way to Newport on the A518. It's absolutely mind-blowingly infuriating to be stuck behind somoene who is clearly too nervous to go more than 40mph on a clear dry day on a major A road wher the limit is 60mph. And it's not good safe driving either. Do that on your driving test and you would fail for not making enough progress. If people are not confident enough to get up to the speed limit then they shouldn't be driving at all!

Dog owners, lager drinkers, people who have barbecues in their back gardens, contestants who applaud themselves on tv quiz shows.

What's wrong with dog owners? Can't disagree about Barbecues 's to be honest, who needs drunk rowdy neightbours, too much noise and the stink of fire enhancing fluid polluting their nice quiet garden on a quiet Sunday afternoon!

What,s wrong with dog owners? For everyone of them who say "He won't hurt you", "He's only being friendly", He's more scared of you than you are of him" etc.

But what if he won't hurt you? I'm not getting your context? Do you mean when off the lead? When you visit the dog owners house?

I failed my first test with only two minors and a major for going around the J14 motorway roundabout too slowly.

I vividly remember my driving instructor telling me to put my foot down along the A51 as going slow did not equate to being safe, and that i could fail my test for not making enough progress. I passed first time :)

The context is I don't like dogs or their owners especially those who allow their dogs to run amok in public houses when I'm trying to enjoy a quart or two of Old Shagworthy's Finest Foreskin Puller. Feel free to substitute the word children for dogs. Don't get me started on prawn cocktail crisps which should also be checking into room 101.

Clearly I didn't have the good driving instructor

In the spirit of 'oh go on then...' - seeing as i remember this particular 'chain' of discourse, and yet in the full knowledge that it is but sound & fury, signifying nothing - let's examine that claim...

'I was accused of being an aggressive driver'

OP
Not a problem specific to Stafford, but why do people who are obviously poorly sighted drive in the dark? Had the misfortune to follow someone like this from Stafford to Newport the other night. Despite the fact it's, in the main, a 60mph road, the driver in front of me never went faster than 40 and slammed on his brakes everytime a car came towards us. It became clear they were struggling to see where they were going. Surely people are able to realise they have a sight problem and not drive when it's dark?

Response chain
Some people are also nervous drivers particularly in the dark
Then take up another form of transport. A car can kill, if theyre (sic) that nervous that they only go at just over half the speed limit and slam on they're (sic) brakes every time another car approaches they are a danger to themself (sic) and others on the road. My advice, stay off the road and think of the other innocent people!!!
Unfortunately you can't control what other people do and you just have to let it wash over you getting stressed about it will only make the driver who is annoyed about other drivers more annoyed which can be as equally as dangerous.
Oh dear, where to start?

Firstly, just because a road has a limit of 60mph does NOT mean that it is compulsory to drive at this speed at all times.

It would actually be foolhardy to do so, especially at night when one has to take into account reduced visibilty and the fact that it is harder to judge distance and speed than when it is daylight.

At 60mph it takes 200 ft to stop and bearing in mind that on an unlit stretch of road you can only see a few metres ahead of you then only the foolish would drive at speed.

If the driver in front was braking quite often then this would ONLY be a problem to you if you were driving TOO CLOSE to him. If you were keeping a safe distance then this should not impact on you.

It might be possible that the driver was doing the thing that drivers do when they have a road rage/road hog/ driver right up their backside .......continually tap on the brakes really quickly to warn the idiot behind them to "BACK OFF"...

...Impatient drivers are as much a menace to the roads as nervous drivers.
What a load of crap...

...I was not driving too close, I did not have road rage...
No road rage hmmm
er I think it's impossible to have road rage on a forum!
Simply pointing out the aggressive tone that is in your posting...

'Simply pointing out the aggressive tone that is in your posting'

The concept of what might be in Room 101 has been rather diminished by its latter-day reincarnation. Rats would probably do it for me also, could probably think of worse if i put my mind to it - not quite sure that would be overly wise though.

Which cycle paths? The only ones on my commute I have to cross a main road to get to (so stop and use the crossing I guess?) and always have people walking in them!
