Jenkinsons? First floor was self-service, second floor was for the posh folk who needed help :)
I remember going to Jenkinsons for birthday partys in the 70s. Which building was it?
I'm pretty sure it was where Clinton Cards is now.

I remember the Jenkinsons Milk Shakes. Pretty normal milk shake but with the added extra of a scoop of ice cream floating in it. Lovely!

Talking of icecreams.....

Anyone remember the little Walls Icecream kiosk actually on Cannock Chase, just up the hill from Milford towards Broc Hill car Park ?

Brought back memories walking past it last week and the kiosk is still there ,although been closed up for years & years.

As a child (50 odd years ago) I had a n ice cream bought for me from that very booth, I haven't been that way for years, I'm amazed that it's still there!

EDIT: There used to be a house opposite Milford common that did proper tea in a pot and cups and saucers that you could take onto the common and take back after.

Seeing the Town Crier en ville today reminded me to ask a number of questions that have been eluding my memory cell capacity.

What was, by my reckoning, 5 or 6 years ago (ie 2005/6), a free sheet appeared through my door which i can only describe as this forum in printed form. It was about the same size as the (is it?) Stafford Advertiser that periodically arrives these days - A5ish.

It had an editorial article written by 'The Alternative Town Crier' or 'Not The Town Crier', some such that again i can't quite remember - one thing i do remember is that it didn't half piss off the actual Town Crier who once moaned about the situation at me at length. And i do mean 'at' me.

Anyway, my questions are these;

a) Does anybody else remember this?
b) What the blazes was it called? (driving me mad is this particular Q.)
c) Who was behind its inception/production?
d) Was it you, Admin et al?

Answers (especially to Q.2) would be gratefully received.

*A quick re-evaluation of dates

Apologies; I have only just seen this!

I have no knowledge of the publication to which you refer, so to that end I can assure you it was nothing to do with me or any of The Forum originators. :P

I miss:-

The Reynolds, many a Saturday night spent in there. :) Wasn't quite as full of little kiddies as the Colloseum was.
Trawlers Fish Bar - Fond memories of having a nice scampi lunch in there as a college student. :)
REAL Boots, where you could buy everything from a computer to brewing supplies.
Bookland (or was it book world?), massive book shop!
Bagnalls - loved going in there when I was a kid.

Not missed:-

Woolworths - overpriced tat, I remember buying my mum a Cliff Richard double album in there once (vinyl), completely sealed. Got it home to find it contained record 1 twice......

Boults? sweet shop by the Odeon. He'd split packets of fags and sell them singly if you desired. There was also a rumour that eating Parma Violet sweets made you irresistable to girls and he sold out in no time. He probably started the rumour to get rid of overstock. BTW they didn't work:)

Prestos where the brine baths use to be, next to river sow. I remember an advert on the telly once! 'What has prestos got that other supermarkets haven't?' At which point we use to shout at the telly 'Rats' lol

Me and my other half miss Roy Townzend (?) electrical shop, used to be where New Look is now and then moved, but is sadly no more.

When we first started out in our first house because we had a mortgage we wouldnt borrow any more money without paying charges but you could buy stuff from them by giving them 6 cheques which they would bank 1 a month, with no interest charges.

We pretty much kitted out our house thanks to them.

Hi Graham. Am not sure about his wife as Harry was married 3 times, he was widowed twice. Yes he is in his mid 80's and a little frail but enjoys Wednesday morning get togethers with a group of frinds in his kitchen and his mind is sharp which not all people of mid 80's can boast.

Joe Ellis opp the old library. Bought my first proper fishing rod and my first gun from there. Spent hours perusing the goods through his window.
