So do I. Immediate renationalisation needed now, along with massive investment and reopening many of the lines closed by Dr Beeching.

That is pretty shocking, but shows why trains are only used if necessary. Cost me 3 times more to get a train to Stoke than to ride my motorbike to Newcastle, then I still had to get to work once there. People may moan about petrol prices, but its still cheaper than public transport, and a lot more convenient.

I believe that the current level of subsidy may actually exceed that being paid when the railways were still nationalised.
