Maybe if the tax went on land as well as houses? Or even footprint of house, the bigger your house the more stuff to steal so more chance of crime? I dunno, there is never going to be a way all agree on.

Ideal! We could all live in basements and hide from the light to avoid taxation, creating a quite literal lower class.

A local income tax seems fairest but would be difficult to implement.

I know some fairly well off people who live in small houses.
