I remember freezing rain coming down one mid-morning when I worked in MRI/Measurements. The police actually got an announcement sent out over the works tannoy telling everyone to be careful if they went out at lunchtime and on their journeys home at the end of the day. My car had about half an inch thick layer of solid ice all over the windscreen when I went to go home for lunch. Never seen it like that before then, or since.Met Office has just sent me a yellow snow and ice warning for tomorrow.
Periods of freezing rain, with snow in Scotland later, leading to some dangerous travelling conditions.
Freezing rain is expected to develop during Saturday, lasting into the early hours of Sunday. This may result in the formation of ice on roads, pavements, trees and other structures. Freezing rain is rare in the United Kingdom, but when it does occur impacts can be severe. This is due to the fact that it can form very quickly, it can be difficult to see, and is incredibly slippery. Freezing rain is likely to change to snow before it dies out across parts of Scotland, bringing some accumulations of 2-5 cm. The freezing rain and snow will be accompanied by strong southeasterly winds which will pose an additional hazard to travel, in particular over high ground.
What to expect
- Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers
- Possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel
- Some rural communities could become cut off
- Power cuts may occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected
- A chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
- Bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times possible
- Untreated pavements and cycle paths might be impassable because of black ice
Does amber snow warn of a potentially more severe liver condition than yellow snow?
We're right at the bottom of the 'alert zone', so I would expect that we might actually avoid it, if it happens at all.Is this expected for Stafford then?
Hope not...moving the big stuff into the new house tomorrow......

It should be sold off cheaply before it goes off.Getting that way and there's a surplus of cider in the town this week for some reason.
