Speed Camera Warning

Hi guys,

Saw a smart car with a camera on the top by the science park last week, it's a speed camera car,

It parks up places (just seen it up radford bank again this afternoon).

Blends in as it's a little car and with a black camera on the top, you can't spot it from a distance and it looks to me like a complete money making scheme, even worst than the camera safety van, as its a small vehicle.

The smart car is white, with a black camera logo on the side,

Sorry if it has been mentioned but I just thought I'd bring it to peoples awareness, don't know how long its been driving around.

Agree with that but some area's - like Radford Bank - are different, there everyone drives at 35 to get up the hill though.

(no need for a -1 Stafford Point again, i'm just making people aware, it seems a crafty method thats all)

Eh? Why drive at 35 to get up a hill? Surely if your car aint pedal powered it'll get up anyway? You drive at 30 at the bottom, and increase acceleration as the needle drops. The only people who'd have issues would be those in seriously under powered cars for the weight. And I should know, I ride a 125 motorbike that weighs a fookin ton, but if its a 30 zone its not hard to keep to regardless of the slope you're climbing.

Its an upper limit, not a target. If I got stopped for being over the drink drive limit, saying I had to down a whiskey before leaving the pub to ensure I was at the right blood alcohol level for the rest of the journey would not put me in good stead with the cops.

I'm not doing some holier than thou crap, I also speed when the poor bike lets me, just not in towns.

EDIT: Someone really must hate you! Admin, can you see who keeps giving poor liam a cuffy? Given you a point back anyway mate.

Just looked at the mobile camera timetable published for this week - according to that there wouldn't have been any mobile camera out on that section of A34 today. So may not actually have been a speed camera.

As for 35mph up Radford Bank - its easy to drive up there at 30mph. Can't say its ever caused me any difficulty.

You a cop? Cos I don't speed really, I was lying to make liam feel better. :strange:

EDIT: Is that damn google car still about?

Its not a google car, it says on the side it's a camera safety vehicle.

Ok sorry, I'm not even a driver, so I wouldn't know, just from what I've heard off people to be honest, just seems sneeky using a smart car as I said, like a fundraising idea, and wondered what people though, thats all guys.

EDIT: Similar to this only without the police logos, and it doesn't do the other stuff. Regarding the ideas on there its a good idea, things like safety belts and mobile phones especially annoy me.

The problem I see in it, is it becomes a distraction to people, because they are too busy looking out for speed cameras is daft places, accident spots yes, but places where the speed limit isn't clear or changes quickly I don't agree with. The fact people will be looking for these cameras means theres less time looking at the road.

Why the **** are they looking for the cameras, when a simple 'not breaking the law' attitude would mean they don't have to worry? Worried they'll see you talking on the phone? Then stop talking on the ******* phone! Worried they'll see you speed? Then stop ******* speeding! Scared of being done for not wearing a seat belt? Then put on your ******* seat belt you ******* moron.

If you are not aware of your surroundings you have no right to be on the road, people who can't do something as simple as keep their speed below a certain level or not answer a phone call really shouldn't be allowed cars. You any idea how many near misses I've had in the last year because absolute tossers care more about sending a text or changing the CD than where their car is heading? If I wasn't driving like everyone was trying to kill me, I'd have been injured in the last 12 months gauranteed. People should take responsibility for their actions, the cameras would be a waste of time if people obeyed the law.

EDIT: And yes, I know I said I speed which makes me a bit hypocritical. However, if I ever think 'hang on, what is the speed limit here?' I always slow down. If I ever think 'I wonder if there is a speed camera around here?' I slow down. TBH, as my only real journey over the last year has been Stafford to Newcastle, its only the A500 I ever go over the speed limit on and I don't think anyone does 50 on that. But if I got caught doing so, then thats my problem. Looking for something that may catch me breaking the law is stupid, when just not breaking the law is an easier option.

Wahh? Chill out... I said it was a good idea to catch people on the phone and for not wearing there seatbelt because they annoy me that they think they are bigger than the law.

Was just saying I think using a small, discreet car is unfair sometimes on motorists, in places such as those I mentioned, if you watch the traffic up radford bank, it travels at over 30mph, is there any crashes there? I doubt there is many.

Why did I bother posting :(

Sorry mate. Wasn't getting at you, but as a motorcycle rider I'm so ****** off with people not paying attention to the road! Seriously, when I worked in Newcastle I'd have to do an emergency stop at least once a week due to some **** talking on a phone or some tart doing her make up on the way to work and not watching where they're going. It's OK for them, they just get a few dents if we collide, I'm lucky if I can still walk afterwards. Thats why I have no problems with people getting caught by whatever means, as maybe a few less will be such idiots when driving. If looking for a camera distracts you, you shouldn't be on the road.

C'mon, I gave you a skill point! (again!)

Yeah I know what you mean, I hate people who use there phones, you should be able to report people who do it or something. Safety belts is stupidity, but when people don't have there kids strapped in etc that takes the.

Understand your perspective completely, as I say non driver, only provisional :)

I'm -9 again so I'll take it no one agrees with me, so I'll just shut up. Take it easy tek & cheers

At the risk of annoying most people out there, if you didn't speed.....
And if the cops werent just trying to make money out of it why they disguising the speed camera car as much as possible? The idea of these cameras, so they keep telling us, is to be highly visual so you are aware of them and keep your speed down. Seems they gone the other way, to be as invisible as possible and fine, sorry catch, as many people as possible. And that i think is the point of Liams post, is it not?

Yes DJ, cheers for that, thats what I mean.

Not condoning speeding, just saying that's what it seems like to me.

But everyone knows people just then speed whenever they can't see a camera, and slow down when they do. Thats the mindset that needs breaking, its almost like its their right to break the law whenever nobody is looking and how dare they be stopped. You shouldn't need to look for speed cameras, they shouldn't need to stand out because they shouldn't catch anyone as nobody should speed.

Furbal got stopped by an unmarked car for being naughty a few months back, and you don't hear him bitching ;)
