Spending my hard saved money on a new PC - opinions sought

I am buying a new PC as the valves in my old one have all now blown and the crank handle has only got a female thread these days

Looking at this - http://www.medion.com/gb/electronics/prod/MEDION%C2%AE+AKOYA%C2%AE+X6304+D+%28MD7451%29/10014051A1?category=early_bird_2

I am hoping it might last until the sea runs dry or perhaps even five years

it doesn't seem to be too bad but i dare say you could build something of a similar if not higher spec for similar or cheaper money

I would imagine the warranty would be appealing to such a man as JM - no hassle computing. I'm inclined to agree, which is why I have a mac ;)

In all seriousness though that is an extremely robust machine but i know nothing of value for money in computers these days (again, I have a mac lol) so I'll leave it to the experts to give their opinion.

If you want something to last a while, I bought a quad core machine in 2007 and it's still blisteringly fast compared to modern PCs (obviously not top of the range quad core ones, but most reasonably spec'd machines). In short, I believe in 3 more years it will be still too good to replace without a good reason, so longevity will not be a problem.

I'm sure that myself or gdavies would be happy to quote you up for same spec system as that, but if you want the 5 year warranty stay with your plan. Having said that, at the price you will possibly save, the 5 year warranty might not really be an issue, just depending on how you look at it.

Tell you what Mr. Marwood, pretty sure WMR would agree, you manage to throw a lot of threads hay wood bound but yet you still seek the kind of advice WMR and me enjoy. I will even get with WMR to help build you a forum worthy computer, I have a 4.1 channel sound card that can go to a good home, plus a few hard drives too and would only charge labor for them, but its down to WMR if he would like to build a forum built computer, as in forum built I mean built from the tech wizards on here lol.

I'll be honest, I'm quite happy for you to take this one on GD if you've already got some parts you could supply towards it. I'm quite busy at the moment anyway here, so if you can provide for JM's needs crack on me chum. :)
Not sure though whether JM would like a completely new system (seeing as he's looking to have something that shouldn't cause him troubles in the new few year) ?

Fair point WMR, I am pretty busy too hence why i suggested that lol, I reckon i could catch up quick enough, JM its now down to you if you want an entirely new system or something rebuilt or even built from new, I would do it for little charge.

What am I saying i would not get that right lol

in all fairness someone on ebay is showing you can get more for the money http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Blu-Ray-Digital-Freeview-Wifi-Quad-Core-HTPC-Antec-PC_W0QQitemZ120553701906QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=214529987786&rvr_id=214529987786&cguid=a49a379c12a0a0a9f5521572fe2c8412

To be quite honest if it was built by me or WMR I am pretty sure I can vouch for WMR but either of us would sort things that went, or if they wrong out for you
