Spice Island

had the most amazing meal at Spice Island AGAIN last night, they even make LIVER taste good. the bottle of wine we took cost more than our meal per head including sides and starters. My other half (hooperman) spent ages writing 'THANKU' in the 'red' dressing seeing as they had been kind enough to write the names of our starters on the plates in green and red 'sauce'. just another quirky thing like olives in the salad, fried beetroot on the rice and basil garnish on the raita. I like olives and beetroot and basil so i'm OK. if you've not been you must try it. lots of fish dishes like, bass, monkfish and salmon, a huge range of eclectic fusion dishes and they are happy to make what you like as strong or as mild as you wish, wether its on the menu or not - just dont hope for a pork pie!. I had a lamb palak (sagwala) it was so tender I ate it with just a fork and we had enough to being home for dinner today! and its take your own booze too.

As I just posted in Karma II thread...

The wife has converted from having Chicken Tikka Massala everytime thanks to the excellence of Spice Island. She is now a Murgh Mossolini (chicken stuffed with lamb mince) devotee.

For me, you can't whack the Dhansak. It's made me so pleased to have broken the Spice Delight hex that has hung over our house for so many bland years. Don't get me wrong I did love SD but they definately took a wrong turn somewhere in the last 2 years or so IMO

I would recommend the Murgh Mossolini, the curried lamb shank (sorry, cant remember the right name) or the tandoori salmon from Spice Island.

This is, without doubt, THE best curry I've ever had.

Then I'm sold! Must be good, you only post once every 2 years so to use it saying that is praise indeed ;)

I love the murgh mussolini too, the salmon starter is a must - but take your own lemons as they never have any! plenty of limes though.

Just had a curry from here and it was, without doubt, the most bland curry I've ever had! We've ordered from there before and been very happy....very unusual and disappointing...

We had a ropey couple of meals there the other week as well. Surprised considering it comes so recommended.

I'm still sobbing over the demise of Karma...

We have a child free night tonight, and no Karma to go to :(
Could always give them a ring, if the old number is still there, it did look close to completion, and such activity late on a Thursday evening might be due to trying for a Friday evening opening...

There is a sign outside Karma saying it is now called Nirvana serving Indian and Bangladeshi food.

Not sure when they open though.
